It’s a moment of baking frustration we’ve all experienced: You’re about to make a batch of your famous chocolate chip cookies, you’re measuring your ingredients, you open the box of brown sugar you bought only a month earlier and ease your measuring cup into the inner bag when -- clunk! -- your moist, fragrant brown sugar has turned into a solid brick. As you grab a hammer and chisel to crack off a hunk of rock-hard brown sugar, you wonder if there will ever be a solution to this common kitchen conundrum …

Thanks to the Progressive® Brown Sugar Keeper, you’ll never have this problem again. The Brown Sugar Keeper is a brilliantly simple way to keep your brown sugar fresh, fragrant and soft, so it’s ready any time you need it. The air-tight container holds up to 2 pounds of brown sugar, and a special terra-cotta insert keeps your sugar from drying out. Simply remove the terra-cotta disc from its holder under the container lid, moisten it with tap water, and place it right into the Brown Sugar Keeper. The easy-to-open latch forms a secure, airtight seal that will keep your brown sugar as fresh as the day you opened the bag.

Why We Love It:
Whether we’re baking cookies, pies or cakes, or making a batch of barbecue sauce on the stovetop, the Brown Sugar Keeper allows us to scoop brown sugar without needing any power tools!

Features:
  • 1.5-quart brown sugar container
  • Terra-cotta insert
  • Easy-open airtight latch
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Cleaning & Care: Dishwasher safe
  • Origin: China
  • Size: 1.5-qt.
  • MOST HELPFUL REVIEWS:

  • Brown sugar keeper revamp

This brown sugar keeper meets all of its quality requirements with the exception of being to small. If you are a baker and buy the brown sugar bags this container will not fulfill the requirements of holding the full contents of the bag. Very disappointing because it is a great container! It needs to be made bigger to accommodate the appropriate size bags of brown sugar. Or consumers buy 2 containers to be safe.

  • great solution for brown sugar storage

I like the terracotta stone that keeps the sugar moist and generally like the way the lid opens and latches. The square shape is good for storage as well.

We were having problems with our brown sugar that consistently was getting hard. After seeing this keeper we decided to try it. It has worked exactly the way it was advertised. The sugar is not getting hard and remains soft. I would recommend this to others.

  • Still dried out

I followed the instructions, soaking the ring for over three hours, before placing it and the brown sugar in the container and in less then two weeks, the brown sugar is dried out and hard.

  • Wonderful product - lives up to it's claim

This product is amazing. I put a rock hard clump of brown sugar in it and while it took a couple of days, it is now pliable and ready to use. Excellent product. Bought one for a friend - it's that good.

  • Brown Sugar Keeper

I liked the concept, however the sugar crystalized with the insert. Maybe it wasn't dry enough when I put it in. I will keep the insert snapped into the lid from now on.

  • I've been looking for a container like this for the longest while, when I did find it, it was way too expensive. This is affordable and it works just the way it is described. Fits neatly on my countertop.

  • After soaking the ceramic piece according to directions that came with the product, I found when I used it for the first time, the brown sugar had hardened in most of the container.

  • I was disappointed that only thing keeping the sugar soft was a pottery disc soaked in water. I could have soaked a piece of a planter pot and put it in any airtight container. I always used a piece of bread which accomplished the same thing. I'm glad the price was right.

  • Brown Sugar Keeper

Another great item from Cooking.com. It comes with a disk to keep the brown sugar from getting hard. I usually put a piece of bread in the canister of brown sugar to keep the sugar from getting hard. This is so much easier because you don't have to sift through the sugar for bread crumbs or have to change the bread when it is completely dried. Excellent product.

    I recommend this product.

  • Tight seal on box combined with moistened terra cotta disk revived petrified brown sugar within 3 days and maintains the sugar's softness. Cost of sugar keeper will be recouped by preventing discarding brown sugar.

  • No more problem bags or hard brown sugar. . .

I'm always aggravated by the plastic bag and how to easily remove the sugar and keep it fresh. This container solves both problems. Container keeps sugar soft and it's so much easier to scoop out the sugar.

  • Good idea

I have always kept the brown sugar in ziplock bags, until they are bricks and I throw them away. I was so pleased with the one that I bought that I order another for myself, one for light brown and one for dark. I also got one for my daughter and one for daughter-in-law.
