I love it. I have not been without yogurt since I purchased the machine. You would think the machine would come with a packet of starter.

The instructions are good except they fail to state how long to ferment the yogurt. I had to look this up online. In addition, the unit comes with a thermometer to tell you when it is time to add the starter. But, since there are no numbers marked on the thermometer you do not know when you have gotten the milk hot enough prior to allowing it to cool down. The directions state 185 degrees but, give you no way to measure or judge that temperature. You will need to buy a candy thermometer to do this properly.
Oh, and the recipe that comes with the unit does not make enough yogurt to fill all 8 of the jars. So, you will need to increase the volume by 50% to use all 8 jars.
gave as a gift to my daughter. We made yogurt together & I desided to get one for myself.

12 of 16 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »We got this yogurt maker because we go through 2-3 quarts of yogurt each week and we hate using that many plastic containers - only a small fraction of each container can actually be recycled, and the more plastic we consume, the more is made to feed the demand, which releases chemical and solid pollution into the air and water. We also like eating local and organic, and by making our own yogurt we can get closer to that goal. It's easy to use, with simple instructions.
The only downside is that it takes about an hour to prepare the milk (with heating and waiting for it to cool) before you can leave the machine unattended, so you have to make sure to plan that into your schedule. We're also on the lookout for glass containers that will fit in the wells so that we don't have to reuse the plastic canisters.

I purchased this because the yogurt book recommended it. What I received was easy to use and the results are OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
11 of 16 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »The yogurt maker furnishes me with an 8-day supply of healthy yogurt. It takes a bit of time to heat the milk and then cool it to the "add starter" level, but good things take time. I have truly enjoyed my purchase and have already recommended it to others.
10 of 13 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »This affordable little yogurt maker is great--sturdy and easy to use. I love being able to make homemade yogurt with a minimum of fuss. Once you prep the yogurt and set the timer your free until it beeps, which it does loudly and insistently, so you don't have to worry about missing it.
10 of 13 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »EASY to use--and makes a supremely delicious yogurt-- a taste unlike anything I have ever purchased, even in health food stores. If you are serious about yogurt, I highly recommend this
10 of 14 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »Although I like that it has 8 jars instead of the 7 in my other yogurt maker, I prefer the glass jars. It takes 10 hours as opposed to the 6 hours for the other yogurt makers I have enjoyed for the last several years. The 1 feature I do like that my other 2 don't have is the built in timer that turns off by itself if I'm not here.

7 of 8 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »I enjoy being able to make my own yogurt. I have created a really good-tasting and richly textured yogurt with this recipe: one and a half quarts of 2% milk mixed with one cup of dry milk; heat in microwave for 10 minutes in pyrex 2quart container, cool to 110 degrees; pour into eight containers of yogurt maker; set for 10 hours. refrigerate. Excellent yogurt.

The directions are a little lacking and you need to increase the milk by half to fill the cups completely, but otherwise the ease of operation and having a built in timer were the key selling points for me.

I also purchased the extra jars because I make lowfat for me and whole milk yogurt for my baby. This way neither of us are getting the extra sugar and additives that store bought has in it and, I can make hers organic. An easy tip for making creamy yogurt; just bring the yogurt to a boil, pass it through a sieve into a clean bowl then let it cool until its time to add the starter. Plus, like everyone else says you must add 50% more milk than the recipe suggests. The jars are best cleaned in the dishwasher but not the lids.

Not only will it save money, but she can control the additives and freshness (no more searching for expiration dates at the store). She can also make dips, sauces, smoothies, deserts, etc., or just add fruit. I had a yogurt maker similar to this when my children were young (29 years ago) and I considered it indispensable.
