Musso Lussino Ice Cream Maker

Simple, attractive, powerful. All these machines are is a motor with a paddle that needs relatively high torque to keep turning as the ice cream hardens, and a built in condenser/freezer. When I first began researching ice cream machines I thought I should buy one with a removable bowl, as it would be easier to clean. Only later did I understand the beauty and simplicity of the design of this machine, whose bowl is actually one piece with the top of the machine. A machine like this, that can do it all (pour in the ingredients, push the button, get ice cream in 20-30 minutes) would have to be MUCH more complicated with a removable bowl. Its freezer is powerful, as is its motor. If the bowl was removable, it would need a complex method of attaching/stablilizing the bowl to resist the high torque and twisting motions of the paddles pulling the freezing ice cream from the sides of the bowl. The design allows the maker to make it more powerful, and thus need no pre-cooling/freezing of the ice cream, and be able to make a finished product ready to eat if desired. It is also very easy to clean. All stainless, attractive kind of retro looking, fairly large and uncomplicated - a nice design. Not inexpensive, but my family enjoys ice cream regularly and my three year old son is peanut allergic. Those familiar with the allergy will know that store bought ice cream is one of the more dangerous things he can eat as it comes in many flavors (many of which contain nuts ) and they are usually made on shared machinery or in plants where other machines use nuts. Trace amounts can be deadly. So, we expect this machine to be in use in our home for 10-15 years and worth the cost. I have also read many reviews stating that the ice cream produced is more aerated, and therefore better tasting than from less expensive machines. I don't have a machine for comparison so I cannot vouch for that, but I can state that we have produced some delicious ice cream. It appears to be very well built and as long as it has a good service life, we will be most satisfied with our purchase.

I really enjoy the ease of operation with this unit. I don't have to add the "rock salt" & ice to the unit, as with other machines. Mix your ingredients, fill the machine and 30 minutes later you have ice cream or frozen milk shakes. I definately recommend this product to anyone who enjoys making ice cream.

I have this ice cream maker only 1 month and find myself making ice cream every week. I is the smoothest, best tasting ice cream ever. No preservatives, only natural ingredients. It's so simple to use and my friends want me to make ice cream for their parties now. Best decision I ever made.

I like this machine, but it takes a lot longer to make the ice cream than the instructions indicate. Also, the instructions guide and recipes for using the machine are brief...and sometimes unclear. It seems a little expensive for what you are getting. On the other hand, the machine is VERY easy to clean and use. There are just a couple of parts...it's very self contained.

Best and easiest ice cream maker ever!

Fantastic product! Just pour the ingredients in, turn timer to 30 minutes, press two buttons and in 30 minutes fantastic ice cream is ready! It's hard to believe, but even just using milk (much less heavy cream) and virtually any fresh ingredients (e.g. strawberries, bananas, etc.) the finished ice cream actually tastes better than Ben & Jerry's or Haagen Daas.
Two caveats though. My frozen ice cream has not been as tasty days later as the commercial ones (lack of preservatives? or maybe air in my mixture versus commercial packaging?) but still delicious. It's so ridiculously easy to make fresh though, it's really a shame not to always eat it fresh! Secondly, and it's very minor in the scheme of things and everyone else has already said it) the 'bowl' area where you pour ingredients and scoop out finished ice cream can't be removed (part of unit). The stainless steel blade (two sided) that churns the ice cream can be removed (single, easy stainless steel screw on top holds blade). It does make cleaning a bit awkward, but really not a problem at all.
Considering how incredibly minor the caveats are, this product is completely worth the price and sits attractively on any kitchen counter. I love it and everyone I know is envious of it! Enjoy your own delicious ice cream making adventures and you made the right choice if you buy this one. Nothing else is even close (literally!).
