It is the perfect size for 2 people and is very easy to use. My daughter loves cranking the handle and enjoying the finished product that we made together.

Our usual procedure is not in line with the new instructions, which are that you should never put the outside plastic component in the freezer.
Our usual procedure is to keep BOTH components in the freezer as a set, the metal inside nested in the plastic outside. We then take the set out & pour the liquid in, stirring periodically while letting it sit out for a while, as recommended. Then we put both nested components back into the freezer and stir once in a while for an additional 1/2 hour. We find the ice cream doesn't get firm unless we put it back in the freezer for the final stirring.
I can see why the instructions have changed, because if you wash the plastic outside in the current model, water now seeps in. This means that if you put it back in the freezer when wet that it would split. So make sure that it is dry.
We keep the cylinder in the deep freeze so that it's always ready to go. Ice cream is soft/ready after 15-20 minutes of cranking. Removing the cylinder from the housing can be difficult and requires removing the rim, which doesn't seem to be mentioned in the directions. We have made some wonderful coconut milk based, nondairy "ice cream," which is a real treat for those of us who are lactose intolerant.

The product was purchased as a gift. I have had 2 Donvier ice cream makers for years and found them to be easy to use and perfect for family use. I think the best feature (after producing excellent ice cream) is that there is no mess. Just feeze the inner cylinder overnight; no need for ice or salt. It's ideal for kids. My gift is to my 9 yr old grandson who wants to compete for the best ice cream. .
This a very nice product, but you do need to freeze the ice cream after you make it if you want it to be as hard as what you would buy in a store.

My father bought me and my sisters each one at least 15 years ago as a Christmas gift, as he had one of his own and enjoyed it very much. Ever since then, our family has enjoyed this maker consistently. It is a no-fuss ice cream maker, for sure. We just keep the inner freeze tub in the freezer all the time, so it's good and frozen when we're ready to use it. Easy to clean as well, and the recipes that come with the enclosed pamphlet are tried and true. I would have to say that this ice cream maker is a favorite in my family, and a special treat! Only downfalls: The tube doesn't hold a lot of ice cream, so if you are feeding more than 6 to 8 people, you will run out. Also, the ice cream will be soft unless you make it ahead of time, then take out the stirring mechanism (scrape sticking ice cream back into tube), and transfer the ice cream maker into the freezer. If you let it sit in the freezer for an hour or two, it will be firmer and perfect for serving. This maker is a MUST for fun entertainment! I buy it often as wedding gifts!

5 of 9 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »I have never owned an ice cream maker before and was not too sure where to begin. After some research I settled on the Donvier and am impressed and pleased. I like that it is clean and neat looking on my counter. It is also very easy to use and to clean up. In my opinion it seems like the ice cream it makes is best eaten right away rather than frozen as the frozen option comes out harder than ice cream you would buy in a store. But the ice cream it produces, if eaten right away, is creamy and delicious. I am a vegan and don't use milk, eggs, or cream, and so I used soy milk which came out quite good, but as I said didn't freeze all that well. It makes, I would say, enough for a few people, like 4 or 5, to have a small bowl.
