I have been meaning to get an iron skillet for a long time. Having grown up with my grandmother and mother using them, it wasn't until I was older that I realized that this type of a pan might actually have a purpose. When I was a teenager, I also worked in a restaurant where we used them on a regular basis for in-pan baked pasta dishes. So, I finally bought one about a month ago. I have used it several times to cook breakfast eggs and homefries. It worked really well for these items and what I liked most was that clean up of this pan is soooooo easy. This is certainly not the type of pan you use for delicate, low fat food. It withstands high temps and can be used for both stove top and oven. No wonder they get passed down from generation to generation. I wish I had grabbed 1-2 of grandma's pans when I had the chance years ago!
