Bamboo steamers are typically used for cooking Chinese dim sum, but have many virtues that make them handy for all types of food. The domed lid traps steam efficiently and the two baskets can be stacked to accommodate different foods in each level. These steamers are usually used inside a wok (be sure your wok is about 2" wider than the 10" baskets) but can also be set over a stockpot.

Customer Reviews

Excellent value/price with great performance

As a professional chef I am demanding and tend to worry on functionality of lower priced products. But this is a really nice set of steamers..... perfect for the wok or just setting on the saute pan. I have two sets now so I can do a lot of steaming at one time. I have put them through their paces and they perform with no problems.

I recently took a cooking class the art of Chinese steamery. I couldn't wait to get it. Besides wonderful dumplings etc. It is wonderful for fish and chicken. It is healthier and so easy. I wasn't sure where I could get one and of course, cooking.com had it.

Great steamer for dim sum. Great for steaming green beans. Just rinse with hot water to clean. Air dry. Don't store it on your wok; your wok will rust or get all gummy and funky because of the coat of oil. Excellent price (get it for under $20). It fits woks nicely.

I chose this steamer because it was most like the ones we are using at my cooking school. It is a perfect fit for my wok and steams all food beautifully. Just remember to keep WATER in the bottom of the pot or wok and don't burn the bamboo. You'll make great dishes every time.

Great Steamed Food

by Susan, MA
November 18, 2007

This steamer is a great addition to your kitchen, especially if you are trying to cut back on calories, salt and fat. I made steamed Chinese dumplings in my steamer and they came out fabulous! My boyfriend raved that they were better than any you could get in a Chinese restaurant and I had to agree! I was pleasantly surprised at how quick and easy this is to use! The only thing that took some time was the preparation of the dumplings and the assembly of them, but the steamer itself is easy to use. Next I am going to steam some veggies and fish! It is also easy to clean and it is also a good price! I would highly recommend it!

The bamboo steamer is everything I hoped it would be. I have used it to cook my homemade dumplins. When I try to boil them as I use to do, sometimes they would open up. now they come out perfect
Thank you very much

High quality, higher than I expected (after reading a couple of other reviews). What a "low tech" cooking device. All you need is a source of boiling water. My first use was to steam some spare ribs. The spare ribs came out tender, moist and they were delicious. I wish that I had purchased this steamer set earlier.

I love using this product. Dim Sum and dumplings turn out so much better and the bamboo adds alittle earthy flavor.

Very well made. Parts fit together very well, this can be a problem in poorly made steamers. This steamer is a very good value for the price.

Great Steamer for good price

by Philip, AE

Very versatile steamer baskets. Size is great for use on a very large selection of pots and pans. The bamboo construction is especially hardy and the materials make for easy care. I have always loved Dim Sum, now I can make it to my liking and as often as I wish. Great value for a very moderate price.

Bamboo steamer

Although this steamer can be found elsewhere cheaper, I did find this one to be better quality. The steamers I found elsewhere did not close nicely and were a struggle. I may find that to be true with this one after it is used as well though.

I have never used a bamboo steamer before this one, but I am impressed. It really works well, gives the food a delectable taste and feels so traditional. This type of cookware has been around for hundreds of years, and it is safe, easy to clean and does a fine job. Thanks.
