Tried making blueberry jam but it did not gel properly. Need to know how long to cook before ladling into jars.

labels

by william, ME
August 29, 2012

The first dozen labels on the roll did not stick well. All the stickiness seems to be on the backing paper. I ended up glueing those on. After that the next labels seemed to adhere well.

How do these things work? They sure don't stick by themselves.

Dissolvable Labels

by Nikki, GA
September 8, 2012

They really do instantly dissolve in water, so remember that when you want to wipe the jar clean with a wet rag...the label will begin to dissolve with just one swipe...poof! I would have liked them to be a bit bigger as it was kind of difficult fitting "Apricot/Pineapple Jam 9/2012" in that small space. Still a good buy.

I love the idea that I can make great Pasta Sauce, even after tomato season. Makes some of the best I have tried.

helpful/useful tips

by Laura, IL

this book has alot of useful tips. the only thing it does not cover is after bottling what to do to prevent the jars from popping or exploding 3weeks after the jar processing.

Better than by the box

by Robin, AR
October 4, 2012

First it works. However the best part is the freedom to control just how much you want to use. With the box you would end up wasting some if you needed a little more or less. Jar mouth is also wide enough for a tablespoon.

Best Little Canning Book Ever

by Charlene, WI
October 23, 2012

My mom gave me her canning book from the 1950's. After 35 years of using, it was in shreds. I replaced it with the current Ball Blue Book and found it was even more resourceful than the old one. A must for ever canner!

Jam etc

by Karin, IL
October 26, 2012

I love making jam for sandwiches, yogurt and porridge. I use maple syrup instead of sugar for the taste. A glass of home made anything makes a terrific gift. Now that I have this book, I will look into vegetable pickling and preserving. I love to entertain with scratch-cooking.

Ingredients was "caked up" in cannister

by Edward, NY
December 10, 2012

When I opened container, the contents was caked up and hard, not granular. I needed a spoon to break up mixture. I made batch of four quarts and hope this container contained fresh ingredients. Is it possible the contents in container froze due to colder conditions outside? Anyway, this is the first container I have ordered from you that the contents weren't granular.

I had a version of these labels years ago and have been searching for them. I bought them for myself, my mom and mother-in-law. So happy to have found them.
