Larger in real-life! Handsome AND smart!

We can fit a lot into this pail such as a carton of eggshells, that last forgotten half of a cucumber, acorn squash shells, dead leaves from our houseplants, etc. I was concerned our coffee grounds might oxidize the interior, so I found a round, 1gal juice jug about 6.5in wide, cut the top down to 7in high (to clear the inside of the lid), and use it as a liner (not purely organic, but a safer #1 plastic). Outside at the compost tumbler, we just tap out the liner, give it a swish with rain water and return it to the pail inside. If you let your scraps sit for a week or two, they'll break down more and you can till directly in your garden soil. As for the value, we thought the pail was expensive until we received it and compared its features to others we had considered. First of all, the polished finish looks good and could work with any decor. It's large enough to put on your floor, but not too big for a counter. We'd put it under the sink, but the reverse osmosis tank is in there. It is well ventinated and doesn't build up moisture, even with that soggy cucumber or tea bags in it. The filters really block the smell (you need a round and a square filter in layers within the lid). TWO sets of filters are included, which provides smell protection for a year (or more depending how smelly your kitchen scraps are and how often you empty the pail). If you need more filters, the cooking.com price for replacements is a good value (you get two sets=one year's supply). Just get 'em and save yourself the hassle of hunting for them later (some replacements are smaller and thinner). And freeship deals always make the price more manageable. This compost pail makes it easier for our small family to compost and live greener. When you have to decide,

I love the pail. It goes great with my kitchen appliances and does not look out of place. Holds (for my family) a weeks worth of compost. I have a very good sense of smell and I have tried other compost pails that did not keep the smell in. I could smell the food a few hours later. Not with this one. Even if I get right up to it. Even the next day. What a great product!!! Thank you, Mary

My husband was keeping our inside compost in the little boxes/bins we get mushrooms in from the grocery, and sometimes (when it got to be too much for the box/bin) in plastic bags that sometimes leaked, and almost always smelled bad. So having this great, stainless steel, covered

This is an excellent item. This is our second one, and we have used it as a gift item for close friends. The charcoal filter eliminates all odors so keeping the pail on the counter top presents no problem. It is both practical and attractive.

No odor. Works great. Easy to utilize as the top just sits on the bottom can. When I used my old plastic container, sealing the lid can make it irritating to utilize.

We had a porcelain compost pail for a number of years but we were always worried that it would get broken. That finally happened last month. The stainless steel pail is better sized, shorter with larger diameter. A very good value.

Well made, good looking compost pail

by Gregory, PA

It's expensive, but worth the investment if you are looking for a well-made, good-looking compost pail for your kitchen counter. We've used our for over a month and think it works very well. We have not had any problems with ants or other critters being attracted to the refuse in the pail prior to making its way out to the composter.

You ask if the producct is a good value for the price. I think it is a little expensive but have not seen anything else that does the job as nicely.

Compost Pail

by Sheila, AE
August 26, 2008

Hi,

We live in Germany and houses do not have garbage disposals. Garbage is only picked up every two weeks and the garbage cans only have room for approximately 10 gals. We now can compost peelings and coffee grounds without having the kitchen smell like garbage or have flies all over the garbage. Absolutely no smell from the closed pail and only minimal smell when opening the pail. Great product for anyone who likes to garden.

Wonderful gift

I purchased this as a gift for my parents. It is so much nicer than their homemade compost container. It is a very pretty container that is large enough. The handle is sturdy and so far no problem with smells or gnats.

This is a great solid container and even the worst rotting vegetables (Rotten Broccoli) cannot be smelled from outside the container. It holds about a weeks worth or waste.

Excellent pail: solid, elegant, practical

by Riccardo, MA

This is an excellent product. I like its solid construction and the smooth fit of its lid. It's easy to carry and dump empty.

I wasn't so sure about composte bins in general. I thought I was going to spend a lot of money for some fancy tin can.

Since my wife wanted on for a present (she is an enthusiast gardener) I went ahead and bought this one. And now I love with it!

We used to keep kitchen scraps in a mixing bowl, which we would dump regularly in a compost pile outside our house. The food scraps kept falling off the bowl. They would stink and give to our kitchen a permanent cluttered look.

This compost pail conceals perfectly from sight and smell the scraps. The lid closes tightly but at the same time its rounded edges allow an easy fit, so I can open and close the lid easily with one hand while I have the other hand when I am busy cooking.

Handy

by Everett, MN

While this compost pot is handier than the old one, I am disappointed that it does not seal tight enough to keep out fruit flies. That was one reason I wanted to upgrade my old one. I can seal it with a towel under the lid but that looks a little tacky.

This was the only store I could find a compost pail that I would allow to sit on my counter top. It is beautiful to look at, no odor is emitted from it, and it is just the right size. Thanks for offering this product.

Forty dollars a little steep for what it is. Twenty-five would have been more reasonable and appropriate.

Very attractive. Holds a large amount. We have a lot of compost material accumulate and don't have to empty the container for 5-7 days with no odor present.
