Just like the one Grandma used, this skillet performs exceptionally well with its cast iron construction that heats evenly then retains the heat all through the cooking process. Use the skillet for cooking eggs, hashbrowns or fried chicken. This skillet is particularly nice because it's already seasoned and ready-to-use once you get it. It's coated with a special vegetable oil formula that's been baked-on in a very hot industrial oven. The high temperature allows the oil to penetrate deeply into the cast iron surface creating that prized heirloom finish, saving you the time and effort of doing it on your own.

Please note this item is not recommended for Ceramic/Glass cooktops.

Ready to go!

This skillet arrived on a weekday, but I didn't get a chance to use it until the weekend. I gave it a cursory wash (no soap) and trusted the label that it was preseasoned. I made some really good pancakes with this skillet the first time around with it, and it worked great. I'll use this skillet for decades, I'm sure.

One note--it's quite heavy, so the second handle on the pan helps. Of course, the entire pan gets hot, so please be careful when you grab this, as the whole thing heats up and stays hot for a long time.

THe Best Fryer for Chicken

by Barbara, FL

Asked an expert who is a professional cook about using an excellent frying pan and she recommended this one. I have tried making fried chicken in a regular teflon pan but it never came out as planned. The chicken always burned but not with this pan. I am extremely happy with this one.

Great Cast Iron

Lodge makes one of the best high quality cast iron skillets. I would highly recommend this pan. One measure of quality is how thick the bottom of the pan is and its thicker than other pans. It's also easy to clean and does a good job searing.

Thanks to the Lodge line, I've rediscovered my love of cast iron. The results are incredible - beautiful searing and browning for maximum flavor and visual appeal. I think of this as the original 'oven safe' cookware that retains heat so nicely that everything stays warm and toasty! Very simple care and proper use is all that is necessary to maintain the non-stick properties. (I prepare "over easy" eggs in them every weekend and never break a yolk!) The only drawback to cast iron is the weight - but I figure a little extra upper body workout in my day is a good thing. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

My only gripe about this product is the pricing. You can find this same product at Wal-Mart for much cheaper than it is being sold here.
