The reason I bought this fry pan was to be able to sear meat at a higher temperature and to go from to stove to the oven to finish things. The instructions that come with the pan indicate clearly that the pan must not be used at a high temperature and thus All Clad recommends not going above a medium heat with the fry pan. The warning extends to not using any salt because it would mar the finish. I imagine that using a high heat and salting before frying would void the warranty. So basically I'm disappointed that I cannot use the pan, the way I intended. Other than that it's a perfectly good pan, but I have many of those.

Yes | No Report Violation »I enjoy using thie skillet on the range, but it does not fit in my (admittedly 1950's) sink, so washing up is a bit of a pain. If I ever get around to renovating the kitchen, that gripe will be eliminated. Another problem is due to incomplete manufacturing quality control -- the rim of this pan is quite sharp! I am trying to heal a cut to my index finger tip, incurred while wrestling the pan in the sink. I believe it would do a fairly good job chopping wood! I will take a metal file to it as soon as the finger heals up. The factory should routinely dull the edge of any such sharply angled surface. But for that defect, I would have given the skillet a 5 rating.

would make a great gift
I was skeptical that All-Clad pans were all that different from my QVC Cook's Essentials or Farberware pans. I was wrong. I made strip steaks the other night and in addition to a nice yummy crusty char on the outside the pan cooked and heated SO evenly and quickly. When I deglazed the pan to make my sauce it was surprising how quickly and evenly the bubbles came up. I kept the pan just below medium and in my other pans the steaks would have never been as perfectly cooked at the lower temperature. My only complaint is the pan edge is not rolled and it's sharp and looks unfinished. On the other hand it make slipping food out of the pan very easy. I can't believe I waited this long to buy a really good pan. I think the price point was the deciding factor. Now, I watch for All-Clad specials and am rebuilding my cookware "wardrobe"

You should investigate ways to package the item for shipping. The shipping box could have contained my entire pots and pans collection! Perhaps a little exaggeration, but it was over packed. With the focus on reducing (driving, spending, consuming, and etc) you should be able to come up with a better way to package items. I would pay a little more for more efficient packaging.
I love my new All-Clad Fry Pan. It does a wonderful job searing meats. Soon as the UPS lady delivered my new Fry Pan I drove to the store and bought chicken thighs (skin on, bone in) seasoned them and fried them up. They were wonderfully browned. It was hard to not crank the fire up the high, but medium high did the perfect job. I then drained off most of the fat and made some ulta yummy milk gravy. Wow. The pan cleaned up like a dream. I am a very happy customer. This is my first All-Clad pan. I read all the reviews, over and over and finally decided to order it. Boy am I glad I did. I will be adding more All-Clad pots and pans to my collection when I can. I love a good sale. So I will be keeping my eye on this wonderful Web site. I did my ordering online and everything went off without a hitch. I actually got my order several days sooner than expected, and I loved tracking my order with the link they gave me on my confirmation email to UPS. Can you tell I was a little excited about all of this? HAPPY CUSTOMER.
All-Clad makes a great product and this fry pan lives up to the tradition. It beaufilly browns chicken pieces and pork chops. It is a well balanced pan that has not hot spots. I enthusiastically recommend All-Clad for excellent performance and durability.

Perfect for one-pot meals, e.g., smothered porkchops, add potatoes and mushrooms with a cream sauce then transfer to a medium high oven to finish cooking and it turns out great. This fry pan is just the right size for frying chicken also...just remember to keep the flame medium and you should have great success with it.

I read a comment that someone was disappointed with the markings on the inside after use and that is was not shiny anymore. I simply use a little Barkeeper's Friend and the inside shines up like new!

Yes | No Report Violation »i was really disappointed with this skillet. i have a tramontina from walmart that i paid less than $50.00 for that is a much better skillet . this pan does not have the heft and weight that keeps food from scorching, the handle is not comfortable to hold.also, the handle also does not have a hole in the end for hanging from a pot rack. it is a pricey pan and i prefer the much cheaper tramontina.i feel ripped off.. just paid for the name not what i always heard that this was a really good brand, although very expensive.

I've become such a fan in the last few weeks. I can't believe how evenly it cooks, even though the pan is larger than my burner! I don't fry that much, but wanted a pan for cooking more than one food at once. The first time I used it, my eyes popped. I was sauteing some fish in the middle of the pan and decided that some super thin mandolined slices of baby zucchini.would be a great addition to the lemon butter sauce I was using for trhe fish. When I dropped the vegetables into the pan I felt sure half of them would instantly brown and the rest be slightly underdone - my usual experience with my other saute pans. But surprise, these ultra thin veggies were so evenly cooked they looked like they were ready for the cover of a food magazine. This pan makes me look like a better cook, and who wouldn't want that? Kudos!

Love the cover for the finishing of the dish.
Looking for more pans in the All-Clad brand.
Will last a life time.
I have tons of All-Clad and love each piece for the job intended. This is no exception! I usually cook eggs in the one non-stick pan I have. I decided to venture out and cooked breakfast sausages first then drained the grease and poured in whisked eggs for scramble. They slid out leaving just a bit of residue behind. When pan cooled I poured water into it and let it sit while we ate. When done with bkfst it practically wiped clean! No Teflon for me! The shape of this pan is fabulous. I own the regular skillet that's similar but has straight sides. This has sloped sides and is a beauty. Hint: I clean my stainless All-Clad with Barkeeper's Friend scouring stuff. Shiny bright and looks like new 20 years later!! Enjoy!

Cooking and cleanup is now effortless. I have used it several times already and may never use my other fry pans again.

Cooking.com had a special on the fry pan, and it was a substantial savings. The fry pan is top quality and isn't too heavy--even with food in it--to be manageable.
3 of 3 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »I have bought several alternatives to this pan over the years, and now that it is on for a real bargain price, I had to have it. The pan heats evenly, sears better than any other pan I have used, and stays perfectly flat even at high temperatures. The only complaint that I have is the size of the handle, it is a little skinny for a large pan, and has an odd v-shape that my wife finds difficult to pick up.
Thanks, Cooking.com. Once again, the best products at the best price!
This is a great pan, performs very well. Even heat and light weight. Many stainless pans like this are either lightweight and easy to scorch or even heat and very heavy...this pan really is the best of both. The all-clad handle is on of the best out there, others are just too small to have any control.
Free lid and half price...are you you kidding me, by this now! stop thinking about it.
The pan was on sale when I bought it, and I am very glad I got it. Great pan - nice big size.
3 of 3 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »This pan is a very highly rated 12" skillet by Cook's Illustrated, but All-Clad is so expensive. I couldn't believe the price you were selling it for! It's nice and heavy, but not too heavy and heats evenly. I love it!
3 of 3 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »The 12-inch fry pan with lid has so many great features, it's tempting to look over the one drawback. The stainless steel lid doesn't let you watch the food cook. (Not enough disadvantage to rate only 4 stars, and perhaps even so by design.) The pan heats slightly slower than a thinner pan, but the heat distributes evenly (kind of important for good cooking). The stainless steel lid is a little difficult to keep perfectly shiny and clean, but I insist that all the screws in my switch plates have been turned to perfect vertical. The pan itself cleans easily with soap and water. A little "Barkeep's Friend" can remove a stubborn deposit without damaging the finish.
