Pasta cooker for a crowd!

by Martha, SC
November 14, 2012

This is a fabulous multi-purpose cooker - I'm mainly using it for pasta cooking but it does have a very substantial steamer. It definitely holds a lot of water and could possibly be difficult to transfer from stove-top to sink so make sure you want something that large.

Excellent purchase

I haven't used the inserts yet, but the pot and lid are great...thick bottom construction makes for even cooking...my 2 other cheap stock pots can only heat water properly, this is an all purpose large cooking vessel beyond pasta cooking. I no longer have to use 2 smaller Dutch Ovens to make large batches of chili, stew, whatever....Love this pot..

The 12 qt. Multi Cooker is one useful tool in the kitchen. Not only do I have a pasta cooker and strainer, but I have a stock pot and a veggie steamer also! The perfect item with a large selection of uses.

BIG pot!

I like this pot, might be a bit bigger than I need. I do wish the steamer basket was a bit deeper.

I have several All-Clad stainless and LTD cookware items and have been very pleased for years with the quality and durability of these products. I use a high end gas cooktop and need a solid product to withstand the high BTUs. The appearance and weight of the 12 QT All Clad multicooker is very nice. This item includes a stainless, perforated insert, which works well and provides easier clean-up than the mesh insert offered by Williams-Sonoma, also a 12 Qt All-Clad Multipot ($149). My disappointment was realized with my initial use of cooking pasta. After the first use, the bottom exterior of the pot displayed burn marks. All of my stainless All-Clads pots and pans have never shown scorch marks after hundreds of uses over many years. Bar Keeper works somewhat, buy not 100%. After only ONE use?? Has All-Clad cheapened their product???

Great Value

Good quality All Clad pot for a fabulous price. Perfect for any number of cooking jobs. Great for boiling small pieces that are difficult to fish out and still save the broth. Takes a long time to get water boiling, so only practical if you're cooking a large amount of food, but that's what you'd expect in a 12 qt pot! I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 because the boiling insert ends a good 3 1/2 inches above the bottom of the outside pot. That might not seem like much, but that's a lot of boiling time, even with a high powered burner, when time matters!

I like the idea of this product, but it is too large for ease of use for a small number of people. It takes a long time to heat the water and bring it to a boil. There is plenty of water for lots of pasta. I have not used the steamer option for vegetables. I may change my opinion in the summer for steaming corn. I have lots of All Clad pans and utensils and am an overall enthusiastic fan. This cooker may just take some getting used to.

What's not to like? It's a beautiful piece of cookware, as are all All-Clad products. I bought it because Alton Brown told me that my
previous All-Clad pot was too small for pasta and other stuff....and he has given me a new-found desire to continue to cook new stuff.

I have only had the Multi-Cooker for a short time, but it is well made and cooks as the descriptions say. I love my other All-Clad cookware and this is a good addition for pasta or steaming crabs.

It is just the right size. Large enough that the water doesn't boil over. Small enough that it fits in the dishwasher.

I haven't had a lot of opportunity to use it yet, but it worked great for my homemade tomato soup. It was also very easy to clean. I plan to use the inserts for blanching vegetables, like green beans, before freezing in the fall. I've been looking for a big pot with a steamer insert as a good price, and the pasta insert is an added bonus.
