Cost and quality

by Shellia, MI

The quality is definitely there for the cost. The only opinion I have that would be negative has nothing to do with the quality, design or use of this wok. The problem I am having is finding an accesory to use with it. I find this one to be far superior than others I've used.

It isn't perfect

After waiting a long time for shipping, I finally got this wok after coveting a friend's for a few months. He got his cast iron wok at an Asian market, but they didn't have any when I went, so I had to get online to find one.

I purchased it from cooking.com because of the price and size. Both impressed me. I have used it a few times and the wok does a great job of heating and maintaining the heat which are great properties of cast iron.

After using it the first time, I noticed that the glazing, paint or whatever the wok is coated with is starting to come off. Apparently it came off in the food, but I couldn't find it. I didn't notice it until I started cleaning the wok. My suspicion is that this is a food grade glaze and that it is okay. There have been no ill effects yet.

The wok cleaned easily. I will use it again to see if more of the glaze comes off and let you all know then.

When I first received the Wok, I was overwhelmed. I couldn't believe how big it was for the price I paid. It is heavy but that means it will last. I use it on my BBQ grill to saute shrimp and vegetables. If you season the pan correctly it will last forever!

Pleasantly Surprised

While I enjoy using cast iron fry pans, it felt like a stretch to have a wok made from cast iron; however, the same benefit of cast iron fry pans (maintaining a constant temp) makes it ideal for a wok. We couldn't be happier with using the wok and the amazingly easy clean-up!!

Casting my vote for Cast Iron Wok

by Joan, NY
February 17, 2008

I've been looking for a good heavy-duty wok for awhile now and this one fits the bill. I've always loved cooking with cast iron and still use my mother's cast iron skillets on a daily basis - even though they're over 70 years old. My friend who is a gourmet caterer in Manhattan says the best pork chops she ever ate were cooked in my cast iron skillet. I'm looking forward to the warmer weather when I can use this on my Weber grill.

Cast Iron Wok

by Linda , MN

I really like the wok. It holds LOTS of food and cooks quickly. It was easy to season and I liked that I can use it on my grill. The handles on both sides makes it easy to move(with hot pads). I like the variety of cooking I can do in it. It browns up meat nicely and the vegetables were a snap. I need to find a place to store it besides my oven because it is much wider than I thought it would be, making storage a problem. Overall though, I'm pleased with this purchase.

After right seasoning, this wok is virtuely non-stick. Only thing bad about it is it is too heavy. It is hard to stir- fry. Then again, it is heavy-duty. You probably can use it for 20 years.

Great Wok for the price. Would have liked it better and would have been willing to pay a little more if a lid came with it.

Needs a lid. Heats quickly and cooks the way a wok is supposed to. Exactly as we expected and wanted. Nothing more nothing less.
