This set is nice with enough slots to hold all the knives, even the two bonus cheese knives. I haven't used them much yet since I just got them. I am looking forward to having a great time in the Kitchen.

I learned that its extremely important to have a heavy sharp knife and to use the steel to maintain the knife's sharp edge often.. I cannot emphasis enough how important maintanice is on knives effectiveness and longevity. So far this knife set is serving me well in all I do in the kitchen. The only drawback are that the handles leave a chalky residue. Not sure exactly why, but it's only noticeable to me.

I loved my old knives, but there is no comparison. These are so comfortable to hold, so sharp, so functional. I love the labeling on the ends of the handles. When I reach for a knife, I always know exactly which one I'm getting.

You could pay $150-$200 more for a brand name like Henkels, but you would just be paying for the badge. The steak knives are a little small and light so I may upgrade that set later but even without the 8 steak knives I feel as though I got a great deal on this set.

Yes | No Report Violation »I am a professional chef with 36 years in the restaurant business who has never had a problem spending money on quality home cookware and appliances such as Calphalon,KitchenAid, Cuisinart,etc. But for some reason I have refused to spend $800-$1000 on a similar 17 piece knife set from other knife companies. When I saw the Calphalon 17 pc set for $199 I thought how pleased I have been with everything I have purchased from Calphalon[cookware, appliances, utensils] that I would be foolish not to purchase the knife set at that price, even if they were just okay. To my surprise they far exceded my expectation. From quality, the feel of the handles, weight to sharpness. Worth far more than the price I paid and on par quality wise to those German and Japanese brands. Thanks!

The knives are very sharp and feel good in the hand. The block of wood they are housed in looks beautiful on my kitchen counter. At $100 or more less than other brands, this set is a must get!
