Burt Wolf, award-winning and highly-respected journalist, has tested and approves this product. Following are his comments.

Wooden knife blocks can be bigger (or smaller) than this 19-slot block, but its features illustrate what to look for when investing in a free-standing unit. Made of sturdy hardwood to be durable and stain-resistant, it has a full, flat base for secure placement and well-distanced slots for easy removal. Holds 9 knives, sharpening steel, kitchen shears and 8 steak knives.

Due to a manufacturer's modification, the vertical slots to hold steak knives have been turned horizontally. This allows all styles of Henckels Cutlery handles to fit.

Good for a large knife set

by Charlotte, TX
March 30, 2012

I have a fairly good knife set, but no knife block. My knives were kept in a drawer and they suffered a little for it, so they stay in shape much better in the block. Almost all the knives fit. It needs 3 more large spaces and it would be better. The only one that really doesn't fit in it is the carving knife. It is about 4" too long for this block.

slot cinfiguration

I'd rather have the knives resting in horizontal slots than vertical slots as this block replaced my old Henckel block.

I needed a larger knife block and this one works fine. It doesn't have a solid bottom which surprised me -- but it does what I needed, and that was expand the number of slots for my cutlery. .

Hardwood Knife Block

by Margaret, GA
August 2, 2010

I have been searching for a good strudy knife block for a long time. It is heavy enough that it does not tip over or slide about when retreiving a knife from it. It conveniently holds all my knives, kitchen sissors, sharpen steel and steak knives all in one place. Love it!

My Dad was a meatcutter for nearly sixty years. I'm sure he would approve whole-heartedly of this purchase.

Size Matters

by Michael, SC
June 6, 2009

The knife block finally solved my problem of having a much smaller block holding a few knives and all the rest in a drawer where I had trouble finding them. Now any knife is just a reach across the counter. However, in order to hold as many knives, especially the longer knives, the block has a fairly large footprint so it might not go anywhere you want.

Just what I needed for my 50-year accumulation of knives. It keeps "the right tool for the job," to quote Marcia Ball, right at hand. Tootsie

I was looking to upgrade to a block to accommodate both my kitchen knives and steak knives. This one has plenty of room for all. Best of all it was about 50% off!

I purchased this item as a gift for one of my daughters. She absolutely loves it! One of the things she really likes about it is that it is still conpact in size even though the knifes lay horizontally instead of vertically.

Satisfactory

by Catherine, WV
March 4, 2008

I am satisfied but by no means elated with the product. The wood did not seem to me to be the quality I anticipated. Time will tell how durable it is.

Good for the price

by Vicki, CA

This is not a high-end product & I was somewhat disppointed in the quality of the wood and the craftsmanship. It doesn't represent what one would expect from Henckels...HOWEVER for the price, it serves the purpose well.

Gift for father.

by Brenda, SK
February 7, 2008

This knife block was a gift for my father. It holds a collection of Henckel knives that dad has bought or we have given him. For Christmas I got dad a flatware set and rec'd the steak knives as a bonus. This knife block is perfect for dad's collection, complete with the bottom row for his steak knives. It is the perfect size and solid in construction. Very nice to have on the counter.

Finally - an EMPTY Knife Block

by Renee, AZ
January 4, 2008

We've bought Henckels knives one-by-one over the years, so I was so glad to finally find a knife block that didn't come as part of a knife set. AND our Henckels steak knives have these fat handles which never fit in our old knife block - so glad they fit great in this block. I thought it was an excellent value.

Bought one of these last year for my oldest daughter. I was impressed with the size and quality. It looks like I paid a fortune for it. I bought a second one this year for my youngest daughter.

I am very happy with this large, very reasonably priced block. I needed one that would hold all my knives. The first one I got was cracked but the second one was perfect. Great deal!
