For a savory snack that satisfies your crunch cravings, make chips at home with the Mastrad 2-pc. Top Chips Maker Set. The handy mini-mandoline lets you easily slice potatoes to just the right thickness for delectable chips, and the easy-to-use hand guard ensures the safety of your hands as you work. You can choose the precise thickness of cut you want, opting for thinner chips if you prefer crisp results and thicker chips for a crunchier texture. Once you've got slices prepared, simply place them on the convenient ventilated tray, sprinkle on seasonings such as salt, red pepper, grated parmesan or crushed rosemary, and cook them in the microwave for three to five minutes to get crispy homemade chips you'll be proud to serve to your family. You can also use the set to make chips out of other root vegetables, such as sweet potatoes, carrots and beets, or go the sweet route with apple, pear or mango chips. Because the tray has a silicone nonstick surface, you don't need to use oil or fat, making your chips healthier than traditional store-bought versions. Plus, the pieces are all dishwasher safe, making cleanup simple. The surface measures 10.9 inches square, so there's plenty of room to make enough chips for a quick snack. You can also stack two or three trays on top of each other to get extra cooking surface if you're preparing chips for a crowd.
I saw this product on a TV show and was skeptical that it would produce as advertised but it does work well. The box recommends drying the potato slices and salting after cooking but I don't dry the slices and also lightly salt before cooking with good results. The key is knowing the size and power of your microwave. When using sweet potatoes, I cook for less time and watch them carefully. I have been pleased with the crispness of the chips and the thin slices but you might want to experiment with the slice sizes. And no oil needed!
It is a pleasure to try this product with different vegetables. I tried turnips but they were too bitter. the sweet potaotes are great. Now I will try white potatoes. haven't had time to do all of the items I want to yet. I put them in the regular oven to crisp them after the micro.
This product will be a gift for someone and myself. It is a simple kitchen gadget but makes making chips from all kinds of vegetables. The company is always a good choice for price, quality and prompt service.
I'm thrilled with this product! It really works! I can make crisp homemade chips in about 3 minutes. I bought two and that doesn't seem to change the cooking time when you stack them. Both trays were perfectly cooked.
Although the chips maker does everything as advertised and I was not disappointed in the results, the chips are just not as good as fried chips. Given that I recently had a stent put into my heart artery I guess I shouldn't complain too much. Overall a pretty good product and a good price.
I heard a review of this product on 'The Test Kitchen' radio program and ordered three; one for myself and two as gifts. When I tried mine, I found the rubber that the vegetables laid on actually burned in the microwave. The surface is so small that by the time the liquid evaporates, the leftover vegetable is very small, and I could not get them to be crispy. You can stack the rubber pads to cook more vegetables at one time, but that means investing in additional rubber pads. Even so, you would have to microwave at least 10 pads in order to get even a small bowl of vegetables. The slicer was awkward to use and I cut my finger on the slicer. Overall, it was a big disappointment, especially as it was recommended on a radio program that is usually very reliable.
It works great! I like the slicer that comes with it - it's the only one I have that slices that thinly, but I can tell it's not well made and probably won't be as durable as I would like. I use the Top Chips with jicama - it takes longer, but jicama doesn't have the starch content of potatoes, and it's zero points plus values in weight watchers1
The Top Ships Maker and it's component parts are very nice and easy to work with. My only complaint was the chips were not "crunchy" I left them overnight and it was much better. Will try it again with a different type of potato, I used a russet.
This is a great way to make delicious chips without frying and added calories. My microwave has lower wattage than noted on the instruction sheet so it takes almost twice as long to get the chips crispy. I would definitely recommend getting more trays to cut down on the cooking time.
Have tried white potatoes, sweet potatoes and apples. The sweet potatoes definitely were superior in flavor and texture. Can't wait to try more fruits and veggies!
The slicer if a little lacking and hard to use. (to small) The cooking times given are not right on, to the food. Added time has to be added. The size of the tray is to limited for the number of pieces. But is does work with a little trial and error. Not as crisp are a real chip.
I tried it one evening last week Sweet potato chips, mango chips, potato chips. The Mango chips were burned after the 6 mins. the sweet potato chips didn't taste good. The potato chips were OK - but not anything special.
The first tray full of potatoes worked great. They were crisp and tasty. It was hard to get the salt to stick to them though. The second tray full were a little soggy. I had noticed the inside of the microwave had condensation on it after the first tray full and didn't wipe it out before the second tray. I am wondering if that was why they were soggy. It didn't say anything about that in the instructions. I would be interessted in getting another tray or two, so I could cook more at one time.
