I gave this to my sister as a birthday gift after she hinted many times that the ice cream attachment is what she wanted more than anything else. The reason she wanted this ice cream maker is because it requires much less storage space than conventional ice cream makers. She only had it long enough to freeze the bowl and immediately used it. She has told me numerous times how much she loves the ease of use. The only downside is that there were not many recipes included.

I tried one each of the ice cream, sorbet, and sherbet recipes and all were very soft when the process was completed and they became rock hard when stored in the freezer. It is easier to buy frozen desserts from the grocery store.

I didn't want to have to store another machine since i already own just about everything. the bowl stays in my freezer.the ice cream was very delicious and everyone in the family liked it.it is easy to use. we made ice cream sandwiches out of our homemade chocolate chip cookies and the vanilla ice cream recipe in the book. they were great!!! just wish there were more recipes in the manual.

If you turn it off to soon it is to soupy. There are only three receipts and two are hard to make. I am very sorry I have ordered this and I am telling all my friends

The first one lost it's seal and leaked after using it only 3 times. And since the warrenty is good for only a year ,which was past by the time I noticed the leak I wasn't able to get it replaced. As for the use of the icecream maker itself , it worked fine the 3 times I used it.
5 of 10 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »Homemade ice cream is very flavorful, but the attachment makes ice cream that is really too soft and not consistent in firmness throughout the mix. Since the bowl was more than cold enough, it probably needs to be able to churn a stiffer mix before slipping.
5 of 10 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »We are very happy with out KitchenAid Ice Cream Attachment. We followed the directions in the manual for vanilla ice cream. The ice cream needed to be blended for 5-10 minutes longer than the directions indicated and the 'soft serve' was really too soft. However, after some time in the freezer, it turned into a wonderful tasting vanilla ice cream with a creamy texture.
The bowl takes up a lot of space in the freezer and must be frozen for 12 hours. After you make the ice cream mixture, you must chill it for 8 hours. If you don't have a lot of freezer space or patience, this product isn't for you.
We love ours and can't wait to try more flavors now that we have some experience with the process.
Works great. We tried low-fat & rich recipies & they came out great. Works best if you leave the bowl in freezer for couple of days before use. We've had all types over the years & this is worth it.

Saves a lot of money not to have to buy additional kitchen appliances. This product works as a regular ice cream maker would. It's fun to try recipes. I have made two of them so far and both of them were a huge success!

love them.
A very simple ice cream maker, now I can personalize my ice cream.
4 of 5 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »I like the ice cream maker - it makes good ice cream. I do think you could get makers for less that would do the same thing.
But after you prep everything, the process is quite fast (~15 minutes to make the ice cream), but prepping is time consuming - you have to plan well in advance (at least a day or 2) before making ice cream.
Homemade ice cream is the best, though!
A bit more pricey than a stand alone ice cream maker, it is very useful and is a multi-tasker since you can use your stand mixer for *so* many other things as well.
The ice cream surely can't be good for you since it tastes so good. :)
I bought this ice cream maker attachment because I didn't see the point in buying a whole new appliance and, since I love my Kitchen Aid mixer, I figured, what the heck? I have used it twice so far and really like it. Yes, it takes up a lot of freezer space but since we have a chest freezer in the basement, it's no big deal to leave it in there all the time. Yes, I agree with other reviewers that a handle would be helpful, but it's not an insurmountable problem. I'd recommend this product!
4 of 4 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »I grew up getting to have homemade ice cream for every special occasion. Of course, it was a lot more work! My dad had to babysit the rock salt to make sure the machine didn't jam and he had to make it outside because the ice cream maker was so noisy. Now, I make the ice cream, hook up the attachment to my KitchenAid, turn it on and it hums away to homemade ice cream in less than 20 minutes. The only problem I have is that the paddle does not want to stay attached to the mixer head. When the ice cream gets thick enough, it actually detaches which makes my mixer thump. Then I know the ice cream is done!
