Several pieces showed rust spots after washing in the dishwasher. Very disappointed.

Stainless steel rusts?

by Janice, SC
February 8, 2007

Apparently it does, if made into flatware by Cambridge Silversmiths. The sets that I purchased discolored with rust stains within 1 month of purchase. Will never buy or recommend the brand again.

Cambridge Silversmiths flatware

by Lorraine, NY

Horrible. I had this exact set that is about 6 years old. I absolutely love it so much, that when I needed extra place settings, I searched for where to get it. I saw comments where people said it rusted, or had spots, but having had a set for 6 years that I loved, I went ahead and purchased 4 sets, spending $200. When I got them I was so excited, but when I opened them I could immediately tell they stepped down their quality. The new ones are not as shiny as the other ones. The weight was lighter and they are made of a different quality of metal (poorer quality). I waited 2 days before using, as I was contemplating a return. I decided to use them. Within 2 weeks I already started to see rust spots and they were not put in a dishwasher, all were hand washed, and with soap that contained no lemon. It is nothing short of shoddy, horrible craftmanship and has tarnished all my respect for Cambridge. It is terrible for them to charge that price for terrible flatware. Beyond dissappointed, and out $200.

Even though I read that this flatware is heavy, I was surprised at just how heavy it is. It's well balanced, too, and very attractive. The only criticsm I have is that a couple of the knives have slightly wavy blades; but it's not noticeable. I liked the first set so well that I ordered more to make 12 place settings. I had to order the serving pieces from another store, however, because unfortunately Cooking.com didn't offer them.

I like the shape and weight of this flatware, however, the quality was not what I expected. Many of the pieces developed rust spots on them after just one washing in the dishwasher. I returned them, and would not recommend this flatware. The return process was easy in that Cooking.com sent me a postage paid return shipping label within a few days.

Solid flatwarw, good value

This flatware is just the right weight in your hand -- solid but not heavy. I like the simple design and they wear well. I purchased this set to add to our original set purchased a few years ago.

Good set!

VERY heavy duty utensils - can use the spoon for scooping frozen custard! Already had some settings, but wanted more for when we have larger gatherings. The other settings were a couple years old, so this new set has some slightly different dimensions, but to everyone but me, they look identical.

Not the same...

by Sherri, VA
May 27, 2011

We purchased this same set 4 years ago when we married and have since lost pieces. I have attempted to replace it, but it's different. The weight is less and it seems a little "cheaper" quality. Still good, but not as good. Don't know why.

POOR QUALITY

by Cheryl, CO
November 27, 2011

I sent back my entire order - 12 piece set - it rusted after one wash

I'm not sure of the quality but it seems really poor - I have had Cambridge Townhouse Stainless Silverware for a lot of years and tried to replace parts of it but this was not the same quality - my original silverware has held up tremendously but I have lost several pieces over the years and wanted to keep the same set

Very disappointed with the quality of this and do not believe it was stainless steel 100%

I like the pewter-like finish and the feel (heaviness) of the pieces.

Was beautiful when it arrived, but ....

by Sara, MI
June 23, 2011

after three turns in the dishwasher, I saw the rust staining commented on by other reviewers. Silly me, thought the manufacturer would have fixed this defect. But alas, no. Otherwise, the pieces are heavy and classic and I'm really disappointed that they now looked stained....especially after so little usage.

This flatware is sturdy & heavy, but balanced. Love the finish, looks antique. Wish open stock was available, my last flatware set had 8 extra teaspoons & I used those extras a lot, would like to be able to purchase some!

Bought to add on to existing flatware

by Steven, PA
January 15, 2013

My husband and I love this flatware- we bought our first set ten years ago when we got married. When we needed replacements we both agreed that we just wanted the same set. The thing that changed the most was the shape of the spoon- fine- but also the shape of the dinner fork tines which I don't like as much. But overall a great product at a great price.
