A beautiful addition or replacement a griddle

I was looking to replace our worn out griddle that had its nonstick coating coming off and had warped to the point that it did not sit level and only made contact on about four square inches of our stovetop. I researched the internet and having read about the negative health effects of teflon-type nonstick surfaces, wanted to go green and safe. However, none of the newer nonstick surfaces had all the advantages of the new Calphalon line of nonstick properties and cleanup capabilities. When pricing similar type griddles, the clincher was the broiler rack and utensil included with this model that additionally had great hangles for moving or holding it on the stove. Just a great package at a great price to add to the rest of our Calaphon collection of frypans and skillets.

Great griddle, can do without the accessories

I bought this griddle to replace a modular griddle that was part of my old cooktop, so it has some pretty high standards to live up to. I selected this one because it had the largest usable cooking surface space, it was a heavier weight than some on the market though not obnoxious like cast iron, and I've use Calphalon cookware for the last 20+ years. I've cooked French toast, grilled cheese sandwiches and bacon on it so far. The griddle heats up in 3-4 minutes on medium heat on my Jenn-Air gas cooktop. It seems to distribute the heat well, though I did have to turn down the French toast a little. Never having cooked bacon on a non-stick surface, I'm not sure if that's what caused the bacon to curl so furiously or if it was the bacon itself, but I had to get out the press to straighten it out. The griddle sits well on my cooktop grates and does not slide around. The tongs that came with it seem rather flimsy compared to others I have and I'm afraid the rack will scratch the non-stick surface, plus I would never use a non-stick pan in the oven, so I will never use either of those accessories. I was concerned that the higher sides (about 1.5")would get in my way, but with the ample space they have not been an issue. So far I am quite pleased. Do give it a light coat of vegetable oil after the first few washings, as the surface does feel a little rough, though I have not experienced any sticking.

What a great griddle

I bought this griddle to replace an electric griddle. I used it to make pancakes for my grandson. I was impressed how evenly it heated using two seperate gas burners, and how golden the pancakes were, and how fast the griddle heated and cooked. My electric griddle is going in the garage sale.
