This is one the best, little known items ever! I previously owned an air popper machine that took up room and didn't do anything but pop corn. This container is WONDERFUL. You can microwave anything in it, not just popcorn. It cooks things evenly and the lid has air vents. It's also easy to take off when you remove it from the microwave and you don't burn your hands from the steam. It's great, I bought some as presents too!
I had become so dissatisfied with the microwave popcorns offered at the supermarkets. They were all so ladened with salt, bad fats, artificial flavors and ingredients you can't pronounced. I wanted to take control of what went into my favorite snack food, to make it healthier, and still have a great tasting product. This popper produces a great popped kernel, big and fluffy. To 1/3 cup kernels, I drizzle a small amount of olive oil on top with also a small pat of butter. As the butter melts, its flavor is dispersed through the oil and then throughout the popcorn. I eat it right out of the bowl. It's amazing to see how such a small amount of kernels pops up to such a large amount of popcorn. Then you realize how much money was wasted on substandard packaged microwave popcorn. I highly recommend this product.
This works great. I am happy with it. All you do is put 1/2 cup of popcorn into it, no oil, put the lid on and stick it in the microwave for 3-5 mins......and voila! Done perfectly. EASY, no fat......cleanup is not even needed--I'm not kidding!

Like lots of other buyers, mine arrived with a 3 inch long crack in the BODY of the bowl. I imagine this will shorten the longevity of the product.
Still, it works great now, and without any oil or butter.
I love it, but you'd think they'd figure out how to ship the thing unbroken.
I really like the corn popper and use it quite frequently as I grew to dislike the paper bag popping in the micro as I know it's not the healthest. The popcorn is crisp and fresh tasting AND I can put as much SALT as I don't want on it. The bags have waaaaay too much salt. THanks.
I love this micro popper because you can use oil in the popper. I use Wildtree Butter Grapeseed Oil (better for you than olive oil) to pop my popcorn in. I put 1/3 to 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels and 1/8 cup of oil; cover with lid and microwave for about 4 minutes. I salt the popcorn when it comes out. Tastes fabulous. The only downside is that the popper bowl gets very hot. Be careful when removing from the microwave. www.debraschramm.mywildtree.com for the Butter Grapeseed oil.
Although the popper arrived with a cracked lip -- another review also sited the same problem -- it did not affect the overall effectiveness of the product and I really love it. I recently read that microwave popcorn bags contain a very dangerous, toxic substance called PFOA's, which have been linked to infertility in humans, and caused certain cancers and birth defects in animals. When the bags are heated, the PFOA's vaporize and are absorbed into the popcorn which is then ingested. Unfortunately, the FDA and EPA say they don't have enough scientific evidence yet to pull the bags off the shelves, so I decided to find another way to enjoy microwave popcorn without the risk of ingesting PFOA's. This popper works even better than the bags and is much, much cheaper! Definitely worth the money.
I love this popcorn popper! Popcorn comes out light and fluffy, and you can use plain ordinary popcorn out of the jar or bag--much cheaper than prepackaged--with or without oil. We usually pop without oil, and my husband likes to use nonstick butter spray and salt after cooking while the popcorn is still hot. I bought 3--two so we always have one available if the other one is in the dishwasher, and one for work. Great price and great value!
OVER THE YEARS I'VE ENJOYED POPCORN MADE WITH THIS POPPER BY NORDIC WARE. IT PRODUCES GREAT RESULTS BOTH WITH AND WITHOUT OILS TOO. THE ONE SERIOUS ISSUE I REPEATEDLY EXPERIENCE IS THAT OVER TIME (A FEW MONTHS WITH DAILY USE) THE TOPS WARP SENDING UN-POPPED KERNELS ALL OVER THE MICROWAVE INTERIOR.
I MUST SAY HOWEVER THAT WHEN I CALL NORDIC WARE ABOUT THIS, THEY QUICKLY SEND TWO OR MORE TOPS - BUT IT DOES HAPPEN.
I'VE EXPERIMENTED WITH VARIOUS SETTING ON THE MIC AND WIND UP WITH THE PROBLEM ANYWAY.
HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS? ANY SUGGESTIONS? IT DOES MAKE GREAT POPCORN.
I bought one of these a year ago and have used it regularly. I liked it so well I ordered one for my daughter. She loves it also. The price is great and we have good popcorn without all those chemicals. The original one I bought got a crack in it. I called cooking.com and they had the manufacturer replace it immediately. Delivery was timely for both orders. You can't do better than this.
This is an excellent microwave popcorn maker with a very solid base unlike others on the market. There's no paper inserts or other bits just the lid and base. The lid is a bit of a let down being made of cheap plastic however compared to rival poppers it's far better quality makes great popcorn and I would definitely recommend it. especially if you're looking for a low fat version of popcorn. Personally I just add salt once it's cooked, nothing else! My mom has had her microwave popcorn maker for over 25 years and it's still going strong. I've been searching for a similar one to hers for ages and this is as close as it gets. I'm hoping I'll get many years out of mine too! We live in the UK and it's impossible to find any here; for some reason they don't sell or make microwave ones so I've had to use family in the States to get it but it was worth the wait.
Purchased this after reading about it in a newspaper article. We had gone through 4 or 5 West Bend stir poppers - wore them out. Then we bought a Presto Power Pop. Liked it but didn't really care for having to keep buying the Power Cups, which are not cheap. Love it that this one does not need the power cup nor oil (unless you want it). Only negative is that it's small compared to the Presto Power Pop.
I followed the directions that came with the popper, and the first batch was awful - no flavor and soggy kernels. It took some trial and error to make popcorn similar to microwave popcorn that comes in bags and since then, I use the popper almost every day.
