The heat-resistant strainer catches unwanted food bits, and the stopper prevents fat from entering the spout when you pour liquid back into your pot to finish cooking. This OXO fat separator strainer is excellent as most everything OXO makes is. Large capacity, heavy duty, and that it comes with a strainer makes this a versatile tool in any kitchen.

I have wanted a fat separator for a long time. I have a really old one and was looking to update. I like this for a number of reasons, the size, the strainer on the top to catch larger bits of herbs, fat, etc., it has a really nice handle that is easy to hold, you have a nice grip with it. I am not sure what the stopper is for in the spout. It says it is to keep fat out of the spout, but I didn't see how that worked very well. Maybe I didn't let it sit long enough to separate correctly? I will try it again and see if it works better. But overall, it did a good job and the gravy I was making was a lot less greasy than if I didn't use this.

Got this in time for Thanksgiving and as I said my wife didn't believe it would work. The guests were impressed and more importantly the gravy lost no flavor.Defintely recommended!
