Bring multifunctional efficiency to your kitchen with the OXO Good Grips Fat Separator Strainer. The 4 cups of capacity let you work with family-sized portions of gravy, and the easy-to-use design of the strainer reduces the chance for spills and wasted gravy. A large handle with a nonslip grip lets you hold the strainer in place as you pour gravy into the cup and makes it easy to maneuver strained liquids around the kitchen or stove area. The strainer snaps into place at the top of the cup, catching food particles so you can create smooth, silky gravies and soup bases. The pouring spout is partially stoppered, keeping fat from coming into the spout as you pour the liquid back into your mixing bowl, pot or pan. Pour gravy into the separator and watch as lean, healthy and flavorful liquid separates from fatty substance — the fat will rise to the top. The OXO Good Grips Fat Separator Strainer is marked with ounces, milliliters and cups, ensuring you always know exactly how much gravy you have. Whip up complex sauces, gravies and soups by relying on precision measurements to get the flavor just right. The separator can also double as a traditional measuring cup. Simply remove the top and stopper, and you have a precision pouring instrument perfect for use in making cakes, pancakes, breads and any item where liquid measurement is required.
Before the Oxo Fat Separator, I had used the ones made of glass. They always felt so fragile I was nervous when using them and storing them. The Oxo Separator is amazing. It is very user friendly. It has a large capacity, is very heat resistant and is easy to see through as you pour. A very minimal amount of fat was left at the bottom. The strainer allowed more liquid to be reserved when pouring off. I purchased the Oxo Separator as a gift for my mother and showed her how to use it over Christmas. I think I will order another for myself and get rid of my glass version.
I have only had one opportunity to use this so far. It seems that I needed more drippings to separate so that the cup would work properly and this was from a 20# turkey. I tried adding some broth to the contents in the cup to make the fat rise to the level where it wouldn't pour out with the good drippings. This seems to have worked better and I liked the rich broth this made. I have seen smaller versions of this separator and maybe this would resolve the problem. I am not sure that it is worth the considerable investment for someone who rarely roasts large pieces of meat.
We had a huge turkey for a family dinner, at my nephew's house. The 4 cup separator strainer worked wonderful. No one could believe the amount of fat that came off the turkey. In fact, no one there had ever used a separator strainer; we would cool off the the juice, then spoon off some grease. We didn't have to cool anything using this product; we used it immediately after the turkey was removed. The only negative comment I have is: I didn't leave there with my separator strainer. LOL My nephew asked me what he could do, to get a strainer like that, I replied "a hug". So, I will be placing another order for a separator strainer real soon, to replace the one I left at my nephew's home.
At first when I unpacked this big 4 cup gravy separator I thought thus thing is too big. But, juices from a 15 pound turducken later, it was just right for straining and separating all the juicy goodness from the fat. Worked perfectly.
I purchase almost every cooking item we need from Cooking.com. When our fat separator disintegrated, I wanted to get my wife a new one. This separator went on sale, so I purchased it without hesitation. It is a great product and does a wonderful job. The strainer top removes any “chucks” immediately, and by putting the plug into the spout, no fat goes up the spout when you first pour in the drippings. So you don’t get that burst of fat when you first pour out the juice. But be sure you need a 4 cup separator. It is large. It worked great for Thanksgiving when family and friends were over, but it is definitely too large for us to you on a very regular basis since it is just the 2 of us at home most of the time. I am going to purchase another 1-2 cup separator (on Cooking.com of course) and we will save this one for large family/friend gatherings.
Works great, I am 55 years old and now I get one, what was I thinking. I could have saved myself the hassle all these years. All that skimming the oil off the top of a bowl with a spoon. Now it takes seconds. Don't wait, get one now.
I have been wanting one of these for years and my husband purchased it for me for Christmas. It worked fantastic. I always roast a duckling for Christmas for us and as you know it has quite a lot of fat. However using this product made my gravy just perfect this year. No hard work trying to seperate the fat from the juices. Thanks for making such a good product
I saw it had mixed reviews but was recommended by the Test Kitchen show, so I thought I'll give it a try. I followed all the directions and pulled the little plug, and it did hold back most of the fat. I also like the built-in strainer at the top. While the best method to degrease your soups, stews, and sauces is still to leave it in the fridge overnight until the fat solidifies and can be scooped off, there's not always time for that and this may well be second best.
