To release the most flavor from certain herbs and spices you need the right tools. This handsome Mortar and Pestle is perfect for grinding herbs, spices and nuts into pastes or powders. The heavy, smooth marble makes for a sturdy base and provides the right amount of weight for best results. Use it again and again for pestos, homemade curry powder and spice rubs – it's made to last a lifetime.

  • MOST HELPFUL REVIEWS

  • Sure, you know that whole spices taste better, cost less and have a much longer shelf life than pre-ground, but what do you do when the recipe calls for only a teaspoon of this and a half-teaspoon of that? You use a beautiful mortar and pestle like this one of course! Don't be fooled by the many look-alikes out there. This set is excellently proportioned and finished and well worth the extra two or three dollars. If, after a lot of use, the grinding surfaces lose their "bite" roughen them with some tough 80 to 120 grit silicon carbide wet/dry sandpaper. (Hand wash them afterward.) This makes an excellent gift for any serious cook.

    I recommend this product.

  • Great kitchen basic or gift

Blend your own spice mixes (why pay a fortune for spice blends?), make rubs for ribs and chicken, make small batches of salsa, mash garlic, onions, etc. for recipes.

I sent this to my sister-in-law who is just getting in to growing and drying her own herbs and she loved it! Marble is nice and heavy for its size and does not absorb stains or odors.

Once you are hooked on the mortar and pestle, come back and order a larger one for bigger batches. You'll love this (and will get out some agression too!)

    I recommend this product.

  • Good First Experience

This is the first time I am using a mortar and pestle. I bought it to grind down whole allspice when I am seasoning meat and fish. I am very pleased with the results so far. I have not used it for anything else, yet. The mortar and pestle seem to have the tendency to retain the color of the allspice if it is not washed immediately after grinding, so I expect it to be discolored years from now. It is very sturdy though, so I DO expect to get many years use out of it.

    I recommend this product.

  • This product is great. The bowl has a small mouth, but I knew that when I ordered it. I use it for grining herbs and spices together for rubs. I also grind garlic with sea salt as well, it works perfectly! I need to get a larger one for advocado dips, etc. I would buy this again or give as gifts.

    I recommend this product.

  • It doesn't get more basic than a mortar and pestle. This one is heavy and tough and grinds through peppercorns and cinnamon sticks with ease. A wise purchase indeed.

  • In the past, I have purchased at least two very unsatisfactory products that were impossible to use because they were too smooth inside. This one is absolutely PERFECT: a good weight and circumference. The pestle has a roughness that allows it to pulverize any seeds without slipping off and flipping them out of the bowl. It was a very good decision to purchase this one from Cooking.com.

    I recommend this product.

  • The size of this mortar is just perfect for small quantities of spices. I think anything smaller would be more of a toy than a useful kitchen tool. The pestle could have been made an inch longer for a better fin in my hand, but it works fine just the same.

    I recommend this product.

  • I am extremely satisfied with this product and am planning on ordering a few as Christmas gifts for friends. I use it to crush garlic with a little salt to make my own salad dressing. Your help in ordering it and receiving it in a timely manner was above reproach. I enjoy doing business with you.
