what I was looking for

by Nancy, OK
February 5, 2013

we use a colander all the time and when our old strainer/colander wore out and needed to be replaced I wanted to purchase one that was easier to clean and still serve the purpose that I needed one for. This colander was excellent for rinsing rice and pasta. The holes are small enough that the rice or pasta didn't fall through the wholes yet large enough for easy rinsing and washing.

Light Weight And Perfect Size

by Layne, WA
June 5, 2012

This colander/strainer has been exactly what I wanted. The 5-qt. size is perfect for big and small dishes. It's light weight making it easy to wash and handle. There was a small dent in the metal when it was shipped, but it should be easy to pound back into place since the metal is thinner. The only negative comment I have is that it catches water pretty easily so the water doesn't always drip through; but I guess this could be a similar problem with all colanders.

Excellent colander, I give it a high rating; it beats my other one, of which I gave away to the trift store.

What I have been looking for.

by Anne, MO

My previous metal colander was embarassing (dented with wobbling legs). This is beautiful. The small holes prevent loss of even the smallest pasta, but allows drainage. The base gives wonderful support. I don't have to worry about it falling over.

Great for initial straining of stock

by Sharley, MD
February 15, 2012

I used mine last weekend when I made stock. Instead of trying to pick out the carrots, bones, etc., I just ladled it all through the colander into a larger bowl. It did a great job of containing all the stock "debris." I still needed to strain the stock to get rid of the excess fat but this was a great start.

Better choice for familes

by Sharley, MD
February 7, 2012

Bought this because it was highly rated by Cook's Illustrated and it really is a good product. Compared to my old aluminum colander, the numerous holes made quick work of draining pasta. I like that it's stainless steel. The size of this is better for families than the 3 quart model.

Best Colander I found

by Bruce, WA
January 19, 2012

I looked at dozens of colanders both in store and online. This is the best by far. It drains more thoroughly than any other colander I've used and is very sturdy. Definitely a quality product and well worth the price.

Great product--will use forever

This is a very nice colander. Holes aren't too large so you won't lose any spaghetti ;-) in the sink; but yet it drains very well.

Happy

by Rebecca, MA
April 7, 2011

This is a great colander! It's big and I love that it's drainage holes are not covered by it's base! No voids to hold water! I plan on purchasing the smaller one for a matched set. I already got rid of all my oddball ones that don't drain as well!

Colander is sturdy and drains well. It does take a long time to air dry for some reason.

Just The Best

by John, MD

This is the best colander I've ever owned. It's rated the best on America's Test Kitchen for a good reason -- lots of holes and stainless and easy to clean and use.

Excellent Colander

by Deborah, CT
January 2, 2011

I'm very happy with this colander. It's nice and light, seems very well made, has good drainage at the base, and has a nice, smooth surface throughout: no problem with snagging sponges on the edges of the piercings.

Cool colanders

by Alan, CA
September 18, 2010

I love this 5 quart colander. Perfect for rice, orzo, and other small things that need to be strained. The size of the holes makes it a little hard to clean, but it's well worth the price. I would love it if they would offer this item in larger sizes, or even a square size would be nice. The only problem is that it's a little small for my sink and most of my cooking needs.

Not too impressed.

This item is extremely overpriced. I like the design but it looks cheap and would still look cheap if it was one half the price.
