The stainless steel 5 quart sauce pan is top quality. While there are other top name brands out there in stainless steel their quality has gone down considerably over the years. The brand my mother used when I was still at home has not met with my expectations, sadly. Calphalon stainless products are outstanding. I would recommend them to everyone. My son, chef that he is, uses nothing but Calphalon stainless steel pots and pans.

    use of stainless again

    by joseph, WA
    November 7, 2011

I love getting back into a quality pan for cooking again. I have worked in resturants in the past, but have not invested in a nice cooking set til now. The 5qt. saute pan was the first to try in the set. The heating for the pan is perfect and the food comes out awesome. Yes, if you are a beginner then you may have some sticking issues or some discomfort with using stainless, but with the even heating of this set it sure makes it easy. The cost is more then fair for the quality of the product. We are so happy that I went out this weekend to the outlet store and purchased the 11 piece set of the tri-ply to go along with the two pieces we have.

    induction cooking

New pan did not work as well as cast iron on my induction cooktop. Did not spread the heat as evenly as my cast iron. I think that the extra mass of the cast iron allows it to heat more evenly.

It is too large for my stove. It is also a very heavy pan.

    best value for money

I have seen the price of All-Clad and realized that even if I could afford it, I would not do so. Once I found out about Calphalon TriPly Stainless Steel pan....the commercial quality sold me. I go to the Waterloo Premium Outlet all the time and always check out all the kitchen stores they have out there and always love going into the Chef's Outlet Store there. I was speaking to one of the sales people their at one time and that is when I found out about this particular line. I have a few more products I want to buy to complete my collection...I will always love these pots and pans....great stuff for the money.

This pan is the perfect size - wide enough and deep enough -for browning and braising meats, or making sauces. I love it!

We had purchased our first Calphalon stainless while on vacation 2 years ago. Cooking with stainless took a bit of getting used to since the trick to stainless is heating the pan then the appropriate oil to prevent sticking. Also NEVER using HIGH heat is mandatory! Once we replaced our old element stove with a ceramic cooktop, we decided to expand our Calphalon collection. The perfectly flat bottom works very well on the ceramic cooktop. We will never go back to coated pans again.

I guess you get what you pay for?

We bought a frypan and this sauté pan to replace aging non-stick cookware. As a non-stick replacement we are thrilled BUT the pan is very unstable. We have a ceramic cook top and when you set the cold pan on the top it rocks and no little bit! The pan flattens out once it heats up and we put oil in it but feel quite dissatisfied that the pan changes shape between hot and cold. We have not abused and have followed directions for use and maintenance to the letter. Thinking twice about buying another large pan. The 8" fry pan is great. We guess that 12" is too large to be stable for the design.

    good pan, hard to handle

    by Adrienne, ID
    March 12, 2013

The pan is great to cook with. Lid fits tightly, even heating. My one complaint is the narrow handle. The pan is heavy. When you hold the handle with one hand and dispense food into another dish, the hard to grip handle allows the pan to roll out of position. I came very close to dumping all the food out on the counter: very awkward.

    Exceeded my expectations

I love to cook but I'm a novice. However after recently subscribing to a bit more of a technical cooking periodical than I'm used to, I decided to treat myself to both a 3 and 5 qt saute pan. Both were specially priced and I was so surprised and pleased when I opened the boxes and inspected the pans. This pan was the larger yet lower priced item, but in side by side inspection and in side by side cooking comparisons the pans performed identically.

Initial usage and reaction is favorable. Time will tell how it holds up with use. So far, it works well and suits my needs. One possible improvement would be a wider/easier to grip handle as it is a fairly large pan and when I want to pour from it, it wants to spin in my hand.
