Immediately hailed as a masterpiece when it was published in 1961, Mastering the Art of French Cooking was the first book to translate the subtleties of French cooking reliably and clearly for an American audience. It was also the first true teaching cookbook, leading its readers step-by-step through the preparation of each dish. For this 50th Anniversary Edition, Julia Child has written a new introduction that recalls the nascent food scene in America at the time of the books' original publication.
Fifty years ago Mastering the Art of French Cooking ignited America's passion for good food, and brought that food into our homes. It remains as essential today as it was then--a great teaching cookbook and the preeminent French cookbook for the American kitchen.

Must have cook book!
This book is extremely informative and precise with out being confusing. It is very straight forward and easy to read. Although I have not tried to prepare any of the recipes, it is so well written that I am positive I could succeed. A must have cook book for any at all interested in cooking.

This cookbook is a nice addition to one's collection of cookbooks but you have to be a fan of Julia Child's to appreciate it. Be aware there are no pictures in the entire book......lots of writing. It is a bit pricey. Also, know that the picture of Meryl Streep that played Julia in the movie is only a removable paper wrapper not a real part of the front of the book.

I just received my book and I learned a lot, just by opening it. I haven't made anything yet, but 1 of my co-worker copied a recipe. I wanted to tell her to get her own book.

I finally bought Julia's cookbook. I think it will make a good read. I love watching her vintage show on the Cooking Channel every weekday. She is a legend.
