I did a lot of research on Aroma Kits and found this was the most recommended of the kits. There are some additional kits that complement this one (for instance, one with defects) but this one was rated far superior (found one other company with more than the 54-pc set this had but not as good reviews).
Price is pretty uniformly set for the kit. I found a coupon for cooking.com that made it even more attractive with the already offered free shipping.
An Absolute Necessity - for wine and cooking

This kit is essential to begin truly appreciating all the nuances in wine. I have loved wine for a while, but only passively noted certain characteristics (usually only the prominent fruit aroma). A friend turned me on to this kit after a wine tasting at her house, and after working through all the aromas I immediately began to notice many more aromas in my favorite wines.
A very pleasing side effect is that this kit has also helped me become aware of ingredients in other prepared foods. I like to try and recreate some of my favorite restaurant dishes, and since using Le Nez du Vin have become much better at recreating a recipe faithfully. This kit has heightened my olfactory perceptions and I am very grateful for the change. Highly recommended.
My only criticism of this kit is that some aromas smell synthetic (especially the strawberry - smells more like strawberry lip gloss). My recommendation is that once you are familiar with the bottled aroma, try to find the sources and compare the bottled aroma with the actual aroma source. Either way, your awareness of scent (and taste) will be greatly heightened after a thorough perusal of this kit.

I bought this kit as a fun holiday surprise for my family of foodies. I had seen this in a wine store in Paris a few years back, and never forgot it. After searching the web, I found the best deal at Cooking.com with a discount code. The family (and neighbors) loved it, in fact we played with it for three consecutive evenings, kids included! It is beautifully presented in a red box within a box, and the book is a nice summary of wine and scents. I'm not crazy about the cards -- they're difficult to keep contained unless you find a way to hold them together. I used small rubber bands. We haven't bothered to use them yet. The kit itself also has a rather strong smell overall, and I'm not sure if it is because one of the scents dripped, or if it just can't be helped. It's best to let it air for a bit before you use it so your guests don't get an overwhelming unpleasant smell at the start. Overall, a nice thing to have if you're in the mood to spoil yourself. I already have requests from family members to borrow it for their next party.

I am quite sure that the Nez du Vin is the perfect product to train actual Sommeliers, however we returned it before trying to use it.
I gave it to my husband as a Christmas gift, since he enjoys learning to appreciate good wine.
