The old version of the OXO garlic press was much better than the new version -- most of the garlic was pushed through the holes with the old version. Now a substantial fraction stays in the press, making additional clover even harder to press. I bought this product, by the way, because the illustration on line shows the older style product, but the product received was the newer style (which I already knew was not as good).

Garlic press with heft

by Bruce, NM
September 16, 2007

This garlic press is a very substantial tool, unlike similar tools that I have used before. It 3orks perfectly, and with the included head cleaner (the red gizmo shown in the photos), the tool is easy to keep clean. I recommend it highly and see it as an excellent value for the price.

My wife recorded a part of Guy's Big Bite just so I could see the part where he recommended this garlic press. She loves it! She's happy and that makes me happy.

This is the best garlic press ever! The big handles are great for those of us with arthritis etc. It's great for cleaning out the holes that get clogged with garlic.

This is the best Garlic press I have had. This one is much stronger than the others I have had, which broke. It also has a side that cleans out all the little holes so I don't have to use a toothpick to poke all of the garlic out when cleaning it. The handles are easy to use and comfortable to grip. I would highly recommend this press.

I found it to be very hard to squeeze! I was expecting a much easier operation so I am rather disappointed with my purchase.

I have other OXO kitchen tools and as usual am so very satisfied with this Garlic Press. I would make one comment on the design in that the onange cleaning pad punches be a bit longer to facilitate better clearing of the pressed garlic.

It does an OK job of mincing garlic. Xyliss is much better. This one is very easy to clean. It requires far too much effort to completly process a garlic clove. Also very sturdy.

I don't know if it's this press in particular or garlic presses in general. I find it to be more work to get the garlic press out and ready and then clean it than it is to just chop it up with my chef's knife. This will probably end up in my next yard sale.

I was tired of cheaply made garlic presses that are impossible to clean and rust so quickly. This press does the job and is easy to clean. It was heavier than I expected and works without much effort.

Great Garlic Press

I have had many other garlic presses similar to this one, but they are all broken now. I like this one because it is heavy, stronger, and I think it will be less likely to break.

It performs its job and then is easily, put in the dishwasher for cleaning. My hands don't ever hurt either from having to press the garlic! This is great if you have carpal tunnel!

Great item. Solidly built, and the little cleaning spikes (the red plastic) really work. This item is strong enough to mince not only garlic but also ginger and shallots. It is a great value for not a lot more than the cheaper garlic presses available in many stores.

I had my old garlic press since the 1970's. It was all metal and the handle was much smaller. I find this one so much easier that I find I'm using garlic more often ... and enjoying it more!

I haven't used the Garlic press yet, but I was impressed with its heft and the fact that it was well designed and built. I am looking forward to using it in the near future.
