This is an excellent product..However my mom bought the same thing at Bed Bath and Beyond for $10.00. I just had only seen it in my Cook's Magazine at the time from this company.

>$20 was a bit high for what is, essentially, a fancy apple corer. That being said I love it and I won't go back to hand slicing mangoes again! It makes it incredibly easy and there's no chasing the slimey halves around the counter.

This product works best if the mango is not too ripe.

I found if I cut the bottom off the mango first making a flat bottom that the splitter was easier to use.

A little pricy but to avaoid hand cutting around the seed I think it's worth it. I always ended up with a bit of a mess and juice all over my hands when I cut up mangoes. This has made it much cleaner and quicker.

I use mango frequently, and am used to working with a knife to cut the flesh off the pit. But even with my profiency with a knife, the mango slicer is still faster, better. I love it!

I have used the mango splitter several times. It works very well. I wish your
postage and handling charges were not so high for such a small package.
Thanks.

I think the mango splitter could be cheaper, but it's a very useful gadget. I bought 3 to give as gifts and everyone who has seen me use the device wants to get one.

it works!

We bought this gadget a bit reluctantly, fearing that it was too focused on one fruit to be useful enough to store in our kitchen. However, it's won a place in the kitchen drawer because it perfectly splits those pesky mangoes! Applause.

Doesn't cut all mangos

by Rae, AZ
February 11, 2007

The seeds have to be a specific size for this to work. I ended up finishing up the cutting with the knife anyway, so what's the point.

Conveniently TIDY OXO Mango Splitter

by Elizabeth, MI
February 20, 2007

If you're reading this, you're aware the process of mango preparation is a messy one. Aside from the mess, one slip and there's a stain. What a thrill to find and use this Mango Splitter. When you score the fruit both directions and turn the peel inside out, the delicious fruit serves itself. When I was a tiny child, Mom would stand my siblings and me in the tub and prepare lots of mangos. She'd hand us the slippery pits and we would be a happy slimy group. Shower followed. Now the pit has convenient handles for holding over the sink, while remembering my childhood. Neato invention.

Mangle a Mango

by Buffiv, MA
February 22, 2007

How many of us have managed to mangle a mango?
The easiest way to eat one is to peel and eat. Eating off the seed.
If you wish to have one at work for lunch, forget it. Way to drippy and messy to attempt.
Now, thanks to the Mango Splitter I can eat a mango anytime & anywhere.
Thank you, thank you.
Anyone thinking about buying one? DO IT !!!

Mango Splitter

by Julie, OH
March 5, 2007

Like the other reviews I read, it seems a little expensive for a small gadget, but it works great! Exactly as described. Smooth, easy and very minimal waste of the mango.

Peeling mangoes has always been a challenge, so I had my doubts as to whether this would work. One of my frequent errors, prior to acquiring the splitter, is guessing where the seed is located. I followed the directions that came with the splitter, even though they contradicted my thinking, and isolated the seed perfectly every time. This is a great tool. I don't know how I lived without it.

Won't Cut Mushy Mangos

by Susan, IL
May 20, 2007

This is a really great tool if you have firm mangos, it works just as described, but if your mango has softened, you end up with mango mash, not a neatly sliced piece of fruit. Just a warning for those that like their mangos very ripe, it won't work for them.
