Part of the Four Star series, this Cleaver is made of high-carbon stainless steel and precision-honed, with a laser-controlled edge, a balanced super-bolster, and a tang that extends to the back of the polypropylene handle, which is permanently bonded for seamless accuracy. Use this for chopping and cutting through heavy bone; the side works as a mallet to tenderize meat. J.A. Henckels has been manufacturing fine cutlery since 1731. Made in Solingen, Germany, its knives are forged, not stamped. Blade density is improved using the FRIODUR ice-hardening process, which provides a sharper initial edge for easier maintenance over time. Larger knives are crafted using Henckels' exclusive SIGMAFORGE® standard.

Features of SIGMAFORGE® knives are:

  • New one piece construction
  • High forging precision
  • Higher stability of blade
  • Perfect geometry
  • Improved steel structure for less metal fatigue
  • Improved cutting-edge retention and lasting sharpness
  • Improved weight and balance
  • FRIODUR® ice hardened for maximum no-stain properties and more blade strength

    Outstanding!

Perfectly weighted and balanced in your hand, begging for action. This clever is worth every penny. Santoku, paring knife, and this awesome clever round out your repertoire in the kitchen and really are all you need for prepping just about anything short of pudding. Cooking.com has the best price on this Interweb thing (thanks again, Mr. Gore) for this particular item, too. I've gone through several game hens, enough chicken to feed an army [small Western-European army], and a fruit stand of cantelope - all without any indication of losing its edge (and a ceramic clever is ridiculously countertraditional, anyway). Great clever, great price, and the shipping was so fast that I'm wondering if they knew I was going to order it and had it prepped on their shipping/receiving dock...all around outstanding!

    Great, fine sharp edge!

I compared this cleaver to the $60 version from Henckels. No comparison when it comes to sharpness and finish. Save your pennies up and get the real McCoy.

Wife says it is a great garlic press too, ;-).

This cleaver is first class, but then of course it's a Henckel. I've been building my collection of Four Star Henckel knives for some time now and was delighted to see that Cooking.com had a sale on them so I've been having fun. I'd wanted a cleaver for years but they are so expensive. I couldn't resist when I saw this Four Star Henckel Cleaver at such a great price. It's perfectly weighted, fits the hand comfortably and is VERY sharp. I highly recommend it.

    Now this is a Cleaver

I am so happy with my purchase of the 6 inch 4-star cleaver from Henckel's. I use it to get through the bones I always used my Chef's knife for before--I am now able to prolong the sharpness of its blade by using the cleaver instead. Its heft and balance are perfect and it is representative of the high quality inherent in all the many Henckel's knives I own. Of course I am also very happy to finally being able to fill the Cleaver slot in my storage block...heheheheheh.

The cleaver has nice heft to it while sitting comfotably in your hand. Great for general kitchen cleaver needs, but could see the need for a longer knife for a major meat carving

I puchased this to fill my Pro set that I ordered for Xmas. It feels great and is well balanced. I use it for everything from meats to smashing garlic. The price was the big seller. Much cheaper than anywhere else. I love Cooking.com

The heavier the cleaver and the bigger the handle the better. The cheaper Henckel cleaver is a good buy for the money, but if you can afford it, buy this one.

Henckel knives are the best on the market. You just can't go wrong with them. I have some knives that are over 20 years old, and they seem to be brand new.

    6" cleaver

    February 15, 2011

I really like my 6" cleaver by Zwilling J.A. Henckels. I wasn't sure that it would be long enough but it works great and has a nice balance and heft to it that makes cutting a breeze.
