If you had to pick one knife to take with you to a desert island, we could make a very good case for this beautiful Wusthof 7-in. Gourmet Hollow Edge Santoku Knife. The Japanese version of a Western-style chef's knife, the Wusthof Santoku offers all the multipurpose power of a typical utility knife — in fact, the word "Santoku" translates as "three uses" or "three virtues" and refers to the knife's ability to slice, dice and mince all with equally impressive skill — with a few notable differences. The blade of the Wusthof Santoku Knife is slighter shorter, thinner and noticeably lighter than its Western counterpart, lending the knife an remarkable amount of agility and balance. This thinner-style blade, laser cut from strong, durable German steel, allows the user to cut even the most delicate items into beautiful, paper-thin slices. When you're deep into kitchen prep and loath to miss a step, this knife's unique scalloped edge helps prevent food like cheese, meat, and smoked salmon from clinging to the blade and slowing you down. Created to be thinner, faster and to hold a razor sharp edge, the Wusthof Gourmet Hollow Edge Santoku Knife will hope you showcase the knife skills you never even knew you had.
Best Used For:
The Wusthof Hollow Edge Santoku Knife is a fantastic multipurpose kitchen tool, great for most everyday slicing and dicing tasks, but its thin blade and hollow edge make it especially handy for achieving paper-thin pieces of fish for sushi and sashimi, meat for stir-fry or Carpaccio, vegetables and herbs for garnishes and slices of hard cheese and cured meats.
Blade Length: 7-in.
Cleaning & Care: Handwash in Mild Cleanser
Material Blade: High-Carbon German Stainless Steel
A long-time Wustof user, I found this knife to be of inferior quality and returned it immediately upon receipt. The handle is plastic and very lightweight. The blade seemed very sharp, but because it was stamped rather than forged, it felt flimsy - not reassuringly sturdy like I've come to to love about my other Wustof Classics. I wouldn't pay more than $15 for this knife, and yet they're selling it for far more. Very disappointing. I found the extra cash and bought their "real" version of the Santoku in the Classic line. I will say that the return process was very easy and trouble-free, and the product was delivered fairly quickly, so kudos there.
One of the finest knives in my collection which is predominately Hinkles. This knife is every bit as good for quality and handling and finding it on sale at a great price makes it my best buy of the 2007. It handles beautifully and does all that I had hoped for.
This knife has a good feel to it. It's very light weight and extremely sharp. The blade though is a little light and gives a little when cutting things that are somewhat dense. Overall I really liked this knife and would recommend this product.
this is the first real knife i've purchased for myself. up to now i just settled with whatever was in the kitchen drawer. i didn't think it'd make much difference, but a good knife makes cooking so much easier and enjoyable! this knife is light and sharp and the blade is wide enough to use to crush things (i've used it to press down on garlic). size is perfect for my small hands.
My husband and I first noticed the knife while watching your cooking programs. We had never really noticed chef knives with scalloped edges before. My husband loves to cook and all our knives were terrible so I bought this knife for a Christmas gift. It is the only one we use! Thank you
I ordered this knife after doing some research on knives. My son wanted a good knife for Christmas and I ended up ordering this one for myself, too. I love it! I don't have a more expensive one to compare it with, but I have several 'not very expensive' ones that now seem poor quality.
Like they say, if you want something good, pay the extra price.
