Chef's Casserole by Calphalon

The Chef's Casserole that I purchased is much thinner than my other Calphalon; and, if you stand it side by side with my current cookware it's quite noticeable. In speaking with the Calphalon customer service direct I was informed that they have several different grades and qualities of products that they sell. So, evidently what I purchased was an inferior product that was made specifically as a sale item. I don't believe the price I paid was marked down at all...it was probably the standard price for what I bought.

Nice to look at, but the first time I used it (to make applesauce) it discolored the interior and it will not come off with any product on the market - I tried them all! What a disappointment.

I have cooked gumbo and chicken stew in this pot and it does it wonderfully.\
Cooks food evenly. Great non stick surface.

Great Dutch Oven

After buying one for myself, I ordered 2 more as gifts. I like the weight because it's not too heavy to lift with food in it. One of the gifts was used the next day after receiving it and she loves it.

We bought two Chef's Casserole pans. These pans were great for searing and then braising meat They had a broad base that allowed us to work with large cuts of pork loin. Unlike many pots and/or dutch ovens this size, these pots were not too heavy to lift and manage. We were able to prepare a wonderful meal for twenty guests!

It's more than a casserole

I still have not used this as a casserole. Since it is summer, I have not used oour oven. However, I have used this for sauteing veg. and at times use it as a fry pan because of its depth. We just purchased a new stainless steel cooktop and I don't want to splatter grease upon it. The casserole fits the bill.

I also have used it to cook fresh corn.

Returned this product

I bought this casserole for a gift, and returned it after two uses. Wooden and plastic utensils were used as the instructions say, and it was hand washed with dish detergent and a regular sponge, not the Scotch Brite scrubbing type. It was used first to boil a few shrimp, after that use it was fine. The second use it got was to cook a chicken in the oven at 350 degrees for about an hour in broth with some vegetables and ordinary seasonings. The chicken was terrific, however when the pot was cleaned out after eating and leftovers put away, this is when the pot revealed how poor the inner coating was. Washing it with again a plain sponge, and normal dish detergent revealed the inside of the pot had changed from charcoal black to a milky kind of discoloration. The pot was washed a second time after a little soaking in hot water and a squeeze of dish liquid, and still it is the same. There is also a spot about the size of a quarter that has no finish left on it at all, the bare shiny aluminum is exposed. I wrote a letter of complaint to Calphalon since it has a lifetime warrantee and will ship the pot back to them via UPS to see what they will do about it. I don't recommend anyone buy this item, it is a nice shape, but the edges of the cover are sharp and the overall feel of this pot is not what I expected. It is really thin which makes it light in weight and easy to handle, but I like thicker cookware since it spreads heat better.

these were purchased as wedding presents. Thus, I don't know their response to being cooked in. However, they looked good, are capacious, and feel well-balanced. if i hear any bad (or good)from the recipients, I'll pass it on to you. My overall rating is middling due to a lack of hands on experience.

Watch what you cook

I ordered and received the 7-qt Chef's Casserole by Calphalon. Thrilled with price and service it came promptly and looked wonderful. W/in 48 hrs had made a large batch of stew and loved the process. The casserole pot itself was everything I'd hoped it would be - and more. Very easy to use, great stability and browning surface and curved bottom-to-side made stirring a breeze. Two days later, made a batch of orange marmalade and ruined the pot! Totally destroyed the interior finish - I was afraid to eat the marmalade so I threw it out (not knowing what might have leached out of the pot). I have returned the pot to Calphalon and have every expectation that they will replace it I've used their products for decades and have been very very very satisfied. I think I just got a 'bad pot'....

Great as a Dutch Oven

This casserole seems a little light weight after cooking in a cast iron dutch oven, however it delivered the same great results without all the weight and is easy to clean up.

Good all purpose pan, temp stays even, not as heavy as other Calphalon, which
is not a bad thing. Good value for the price.

Great Pot!

I love the size of this pot - it's big but not to big. We have a baked stew recipe and it fits just perfect in this pot. The pot also cleans up easily.

A perfect pot!

I bought the 7 quart chef's casserole by Calphalon for one particular recipe since none of the other pots I had was large enough as well as oven proof. It's now my favorite pot to use for perfect browning and then adding liquids for slow cooking almost everything. The bottom is thick enough so food doesn't burn, but the overall weight of the pot when full is still manageable. It's also been a dream to handwash as foods don't seem to stick very readily. I have smaller older heavy Calphalon pots that I love, but this pot cooks just as well without the added weight on the sides of the pot. My braised short ribs with red wine and chocolate turned out better than ever before since I was able to use the same pot from start to finish. A perfect pot!

Not the heavy grade aluminum of calphalon anodized but a great product anyway. This pot is large but light enough that you can lift it when it is full. It seems to distribute the heat evenly. I've only used it twice but both times I was very pleased with the product.

Large enough for family of 5. Easy to clean. No hot spots. Calphalon, what more can I say?

Wonderful Pan. It was a lot thinner than I thought it would be, but I love it anyway. Great for useing when in need of a larger pan. I highly recommend this Casserole pan.

First-rate dutch oven

Although I had been using a cast iron dutch oven, this one is lighter and just the right size for a family of four to eight. Remember, though, that anodized aluminum requires special care to last a lifetime.

This was exactly what we were looking for to use on top of the stove and inside the oven. It is a great size for stews and roasting meats and poultry. The price we paid is absolutely awesome. The weight is not cumbersome and it stors easily.
