The 7-Qt. Chef's Casserole with Lid is designed to be used on the stove top and in the oven. Use it on top of the stove to braise and sear, and once every ingredient is added to the pan, it can be covered and used like a Dutch Oven to complete the cooking process by baking.

Backed by a 10 year warranty, Calphalon's Commercial Hard-Anodized Cookware is made to professional standards, offering the home chef unsurpassed cooking performance and lasting durability. Each piece in the Commercial Hard-Anodized line is made of a heavy-gauge aluminum that distributes heat evenly and eliminates hot spots as you cook. And because it's made entirely of metal, each pan can be used in the oven and under the broiler. Hard-anodizing seals the cooking surface, making it stick-resistant and non-reactive to food. Handles are designed to stay cool on the stovetop and are balanced with such precision that even full pans are easy to manage and carry.

Not safe with metal utensils, appliances or sharp instruments to cut, chip, mix or release foods in a nonstick pan.

It was so nice to put a whole chicken in this pot and still have room left over. I really like the depth of it.

I have a 15 piece set of commercial grade Calphalon cookware. This piece is not the same weight or substance as my other pieces.

This pot is big, lightweight and works well.

by Craig, MN
January 2, 2012

Like other reviewers, I was surprised that for the size of the pot it was so lightweight. I assumed the worst - that this meant substandard construction which would translate to a less than enjoyable cooking experience. Usually one equates heft and weight with better construction when it comes to higher end cooking vessels. I read the reviews prior to ordering and was worried that I may end up purchasing something that was less than desirable from a cooking standpoint. And if the price had not been seriously discounted from the list price ($155), I would have been disappointed. However, for the price that I paid, this pot is just dandy! If you can score it in the $50 - $60 range instead of its ridiculously high list price, you should like this casserole just fine. I made beef stew in it for my first dish and had no problems at all due to the lighter weight construction. It heated very evenly and conducted heat well. If you need a new large casserole style pot at a decent price (assuming you don't pay list) you could do a lot worse. It may not be All Clad as far as solid-feeling construction, but it is still a nice casserole. I am glad I purchased this when it became available on sale. No regrets whatsoever.

Great pot!

The classic shape for the dutch oven was finally back and I didn't miss the chance to get it, especially since it was on sale, and I'm glad I did. We already made a couple soups in it and they were delicious. The pot is large and versatile. Love it!!

Great multi-purpose pan

by Rick, IL
February 12, 2012

I ordered the 7-qt casserole because I wanted a larger, ovenproof pan than the 4-qt chef's pan that came with our Calphalon set years ago. So far, it has fit my needs perfectly. I used it recently to make beef burgundy and will use it later today to make baked onion soup. The only thing preventing a 5-star rating is that the pan was made in China as opposed to my other Calphalon pans that were made in the USA. I would rather see my money go to American craftsmen than overseas. It would be nice if Calphalon would resume making their anodized pans in the USA.

Materials used in the construction

by Jeffrey, FL
February 16, 2012

The thickness of the aluminum is far to thin in this pot to serve as a casserole/Dutch oven. I have and use daily four 35 year old Commercial Aluminum Company pots, the company from which Calphalon evolved from, and the aluminum is approximately four times thicker. Quit concentrating on "pretty" and turn your attention to functionality.

This casserole is large enough for a family dinner, and small enough to use everyday. The versatility that is available makes it one of my essentials in the kitchen. Perfect for the extra batch of dumplins' on chicken!

Nice, heavy casserole dish by Calphalon. Bigger than it looks. Easy to use and to clean.

This was a great deal, pot is a good size and nice weight. I would strongly recommend. Only downside is that you can't put it in the dishwasher but it did clean up very easily.

Cooking Lessons

by Sheree, MN
January 8, 2009

I give cooking lessons and have added the Chef's Casserole as part of my pan collection. This is a great one, you can start your recipe on the stove top and finsih it off in the oven - fabulous for making Risotto. Its easy to cook and clean. I also have the 12" everyday pan, which I really do use everyday and the 2.5 qts sauce pans. Everyone of them are wonderful - getting them on sale made it even more of a deal!

Always a good product for the price. Almost indestructable. Being able to go from stove top to oven is another reason I like their product.

I love my chef's casserole. It's the right size for a roast and will make a huge pot of home-made chili. That's just two uses I've found for it so far and am looking forward to using it in many more ways and for many more recipes.

Great Casserole Investment!

by Michelle, GA
November 23, 2009

I had been looking for one of these and finally found one at a reasonable price with the quality of Caphalon. It is very easy to clean. It heats up quickly (very important) and provides the use of on the stove and in the oven type recipes. I am extremely satisfied with the product and more importantly the price.

Thin and Light

by Tami, OR

This pan sticks and is not worth the money in my opinion. I thought it would be heavier and it is extremely light weight. Sorry, this one I have to say, "No-go".

Mixed

by Lizabeth, NM
December 18, 2010

Glad you asked. I have had this casserole before and loved it. This time, after the first (and only!) use, a green-ish sheen appeared after I washed and dried the pot, as if I had had the heat too high or had scrubbed it too hard. I have other Calphalon products and I read and follow directions before use and this has not happened before. The discoloration is now brown.
I almost returned this casserole - but in truth it was too much trouble at this time of year; the pot is use-able; and my husband mistakenly threw out the box and wrapping.
Perfect size for my needs. Would have been a good price for the item except that I felt after this experience that it might have been a "second".
Thanks for checking, though.

Sorry to say but, I was dissappointed that this casserole pot wasn't teflon coated. I have been contemplating returning it rather than using it.
