We can hardly wait to tell you about the things you can do with the Calphalon 7-qt. Hard-Anodized Chef's Casserole. This versatile number will save you time and trouble while you're preparing all manner of meals. Start out on the stovetop to simmer or sauté your base or aromatics, and assemble all your ingredients without even transferring them to another dish. Just cover up the pan with the included lid, then move it right to the oven to bake to perfection. The heavy-gauge aluminum construction ensures that heat is distributed evenly and eliminates hot and cold spots in your finished dish. Plus, this pan is even safe under the broiler. Since it's hard-anodized, the surface is stickproof and the metal won't react with your food, so you don't need to worry about any metallic flavors infiltrating your favorite home-cooked meals. And because it comes to you from Calphalon, you know this casserole is designed to last a lifetime, but all the same, take precautions: avoid using metal utensils and sharp objects inside this pan to prevent the possibility of scratching its easy-to-clean nonstick surface.

Best Used For:

Of course this pan is best for casseroles of all kinds, but that's hardly all you can do. Prepare sauces on the stovetop, slow-cook meats in the oven, or use it to prepare your favorite soups and stews. This little number is the master of the one-pan meal.

  • Chef's Casserole by Calphalon

The Chef's Casserole that I purchased is much thinner than my other Calphalon; and, if you stand it side by side with my current cookware it's quite noticeable. In speaking with the Calphalon customer service direct I was informed that they have several different grades and qualities of products that they sell. So, evidently what I purchased was an inferior product that was made specifically as a sale item. I don't believe the price I paid was marked down at all...it was probably the standard price for what I bought.

  • Nice to look at, but the first time I used it (to make applesauce) it discolored the interior and it will not come off with any product on the market - I tried them all! What a disappointment.

  • Calphalon Not what it Used to Be

Lighter than i expected. It may be non-stick, which I didn't want, but it is hard to tell. Overall I am disappointed in the quality.

Not sure of exactly what this pot is supposed to be used for but I used it to boil potatoes for a family dinner. It worked fine but left hot spots on the bottom that didn't disappear after washing even using the Caphalon cleaning solvent. The pot walls are much thinner than I had expected but the size is good. For 80 bucks, it wasn't a bad deal. The next time I'll make a casserole in it and see how it does.

  • Love my new Chef's Casserole!! The size is perfect and I like the lighter weight - much easier to wrestle around the kitchen especially when full of soup or sauce.

    I recommend this product.

I was not at all happy with this product and returned it immediately. I wanted a pot without a non-stick surface, like the pots I purchased 20 years ago from Caphalon that have been great. I thought the commercial line was that - calphalon without a coating. Instead this line is very thin - about 1/2 the thickness of the pots I have, so I was very surprised by what I received. I think they changed the "commercial" line and hadn't indicated that at all. I'm not willing to pay top dollar for a pot that is thin. Return shipping for a pot cost a lot and I feel the product literature didn't clearly indicate what I could expect. Had I know this pot was significantly thinner than Calphalon pots used to be, I'd not have ordered it.

  • looks good on the computer but......

Looks can be very deceiving. I own a full set of the hard anodized pots and pans made by Caphalon and have been very happy with them for the past 10 years. Then I bought this to match my set and I am not happy with it. The wall thickness is about 1/2 as thick as the original hard anodized or less. To top it all off it is made in China!! Very disappointed.

  • Made in China

Everything about this product looked as expected except that it was made in China. If we cannot trust China with children's toys, why would we trust something we are cooking with. If you had put "Made in China" in your product information I would not have purchased it. This was not something I expected from Calphalon. This was going to be a gift for my daughter and her family.

  • Good deal for the price

It's not really a casserole as the metal is too thin, but it makes a great pasta pot, or soup pot if it's a watery soup. I made a big batch of lentil soup and it was great.

It's nice to have something that's lighter than a dutch oven with this large capacity. It's much easier to clean than the heavy cast iron dutch oven, I don't have to wrestle with it. But this won't substitute for a heavy pot, it's just a nice addition.

    I recommend this product.

  • Not the same as original

The yes no questions were difficult to answer because I might choose a different answer with a more detailed explanation. The positives are the size, I like how big it is for a big stew. It browned just fine and the fond was perfect, deglazing worked as it should. The negatives are the guage of the metal is thinner than the original commercial line. It feels cheaper and the thinner guage does not simmer as evenly. It is made in China instead of the old line made in USA, which while not of importance for an impartial review does explain the quality difference. Even cleaning with Barkeeper's Friend the pot and lid stained after only one use. Overall I feel good enough about the price paid and the size I wanted to augment my cookware choices not to immediately return it, but it is a close call. The customer service aspect of the sale including phone contact and speed of delivery were top notch.

  • Materials used in the construction

The thickness of the aluminum is far to thin in this pot to serve as a casserole/Dutch oven. I have and use daily four 35 year old Commercial Aluminum Company pots, the company from which Calphalon evolved from, and the aluminum is approximately four times thicker. Quit concentrating on "pretty" and turn your attention to functionality.

  • Great multi-purpose pan

I ordered the 7-qt casserole because I wanted a larger, ovenproof pan than the 4-qt chef's pan that came with our Calphalon set years ago. So far, it has fit my needs perfectly. I used it recently to make beef burgundy and will use it later today to make baked onion soup. The only thing preventing a 5-star rating is that the pan was made in China as opposed to my other Calphalon pans that were made in the USA. I would rather see my money go to American craftsmen than overseas. It would be nice if Calphalon would resume making their anodized pans in the USA.

    I recommend this product.
