We can hardly wait to tell you about the things you can do with the Calphalon 7-qt. Hard-Anodized Chef's Casserole. This versatile number will save you time and trouble while you're preparing all manner of meals. Start out on the stovetop to simmer or sauté your base or aromatics, and assemble all your ingredients without even transferring them to another dish. Just cover up the pan with the included lid, then move it right to the oven to bake to perfection. The heavy-gauge aluminum construction ensures that heat is distributed evenly and eliminates hot and cold spots in your finished dish. Plus, this pan is even safe under the broiler. Since it's hard-anodized, the surface is stickproof and the metal won't react with your food, so you don't need to worry about any metallic flavors infiltrating your favorite home-cooked meals. And because it comes to you from Calphalon, you know this casserole is designed to last a lifetime, but all the same, take precautions: avoid using metal utensils and sharp objects inside this pan to prevent the possibility of scratching its easy-to-clean nonstick surface.

Best Used For:

Of course this pan is best for casseroles of all kinds, but that's hardly all you can do. Prepare sauces on the stovetop, slow-cook meats in the oven, or use it to prepare your favorite soups and stews. This little number is the master of the one-pan meal.

  • Chef's Casserole by Calphalon

The Chef's Casserole that I purchased is much thinner than my other Calphalon; and, if you stand it side by side with my current cookware it's quite noticeable. In speaking with the Calphalon customer service direct I was informed that they have several different grades and qualities of products that they sell. So, evidently what I purchased was an inferior product that was made specifically as a sale item. I don't believe the price I paid was marked down at all...it was probably the standard price for what I bought.

  • this pot is to thin. it is not what Calphalon is all about

  • Nice to look at, but the first time I used it (to make applesauce) it discolored the interior and it will not come off with any product on the market - I tried them all! What a disappointment.

  • Great pot!

The classic shape for the dutch oven was finally back and I didn't miss the chance to get it, especially since it was on sale, and I'm glad I did. We already made a couple soups in it and they were delicious. The pot is large and versatile. Love it!!

  • This pot is big, lightweight and works well.

Like other reviewers, I was surprised that for the size of the pot it was so lightweight. I assumed the worst - that this meant substandard construction which would translate to a less than enjoyable cooking experience. Usually one equates heft and weight with better construction when it comes to higher end cooking vessels. I read the reviews prior to ordering and was worried that I may end up purchasing something that was less than desirable from a cooking standpoint. And if the price had not been seriously discounted from the list price ($155), I would have been disappointed. However, for the price that I paid, this pot is just dandy! If you can score it in the $50 - $60 range instead of its ridiculously high list price, you should like this casserole just fine. I made beef stew in it for my first dish and had no problems at all due to the lighter weight construction. It heated very evenly and conducted heat well. If you need a new large casserole style pot at a decent price (assuming you don't pay list) you could do a lot worse. It may not be All Clad as far as solid-feeling construction, but it is still a nice casserole. I am glad I purchased this when it became available on sale. No regrets whatsoever.

    I recommend this product.

I love my Caphlon cook ware and didn't have a large dutch oven. This will fit the bill for soups, stews, etc. I haven't used it yet, but I know I will be pleased with this product as I have been with my other Caphlon cookware.

  • A GOOD FAMILY COOK WITH GOOD COOKWARE

I have a complete set of Calphalon unison cookware and we love it. This is my first time to have such great pots and pans. I'm 77 yrs old and didn't want my son and family to wait a lifetime to get the best, So on their 25th anniv. I got them a set, and they love them. I bought this Chef's 7Qt. Casserole for a Christmas gift. One really nice feature (among many) is being able to start on the stove top for searing and then finishing in the oven. My husband of 52 yrs. has even taken to cooking. Could it be he feels more confident with this cookware??? I'm still the main cook in the house though and I cook for 2 daily an for 10 once a week and for 14-16 when my son & family in Virginia come home for a week at a time, summer, Christmas, and shorter times for other occasions. Sometimes there are more with the extended family with my sons spouses parents. Everyone likes my cooking.

    I recommend this product.

  • disappointed with the thin metal

My first set of calphalon (bought in 1991) was made of thick and heavy material and I expected this "professional" dutch oven to be of that quality. I am very disappointed to see the thinness of the metal in my "professional" dutch oven. I could have bought a different brand with the same skinny width of metal and heavy bottom for much cheaper at a local store without paying the shipping charges to Hawaii. I feel cheated. In 1991 when I bought my set plus other calphalon pots and hanger, etc., there was only one kind of pots you made; the very best ones. I expected that same quality and got common goods, not the excellency of my 1991 pots. Mrs. E. Nina Peacock

  • Qualified unsatisfactory rating

I was excited to get a large casserole with a cover in which to make stew and spaghetti sauce - hopefully without sticking. We have an electric stove. I did make stew and had no problems with anything sticking to the bottom or burning. I haven't made sauce yet. The thing that surprised me was that after I'd washed the pot and lid, I notice the underside of the lid was marked like an old china cup. I washed it again and dried it but the marks are still there. Not the end of the world, but I am wondering how long the pot will hold up. Otherwise, I would have given it the highest rating.

  • Defective Handles

The first Chef's Casserole Calphalon.com shipped to me had unsightly scratches and abrasions on the handles. I returned it for exchange. The second Chef's Casserole shipped to me looked fine, but during its first use (to blanch vegetables), the handles leaked water at the points where they were attached to the pot. A pot that leaks is quite simply useless. Calphalon customer service very kindly resolved the issue with me and I ordered other Calphalon products instead. Normally I find Calphalon products to be of high quality; I'm sure Calphalon will resolve manufacturing issues associated with their Commercial Hard Anodized Chef's Casserole. I have other pans in the Calphalon Commercial Hard Anodized line and they perform very well.
