I started out with the Ball boxed tool set and the jar lifter broke on the first use. When you are ready to start canning buy this jar lifter - it is high quality, one-handed operation, and fits snugly around many jar sizes. It is well worth the price.

I love this jar lifter, it is a very well made product. It should be included in the starter package, not the cheap one that was, it continued to fall apart!!

I was leery about using a different lifter-hate change, but this is truly a wonderful product. If I had to choose my favorite canning tools, this will be my number one. I no longer worry about the jars slipping if I don't hold the handles tightly, very easy to manipulate.

My old tongs were not fixed together and often came apart as they got a little older. These tongs feel safer as I pick up hot jars. I am a little concerned that there is not metal inside the rubber grips. I am still getting used to them though so will probably get used to the new feel.
