We think you deserve a kitchen knife that works as hard as you do, and this Victorinox Swiss Army 8-in. Chef's Knife fits the bill perfectly. This precision-crafted knife, made by the same manufacturer as the world-renowned Swiss Army knife, is built to be lightweight, balanced and durable, so it will deliver reliable results time after time. The blade is crafted from high-carbon stainless steel with a high-polish finish that ensures easy, even slicing and easy maintenance. This knife's great 8-inch length makes it ideal for carving roasts or poultry, slicing bread, or chopping or dicing larger vegetables, such as potatoes or eggplants. The patented Fibrox handle is designed to be slip-resistant whether your hands are wet or dry while you're gripping it. The conical ground edge retains its sharpness over time, and it's laser tested to ensure its precision. The comfortable handle won't cause hand fatigue, even if you're using it for an extended period of time. Hand-washing this blade is recommended to keep it in tip-top condition, but it also is dishwasher safe if you're in a rush.
Best Used For:
Put this high-quality knife to work slicing a homemade loaf of crusty bread, carving a roasted chicken or slicing large potatoes. It's a larger knife, but its lightweight and easy-to-handle design means that you can easily use it for smaller jobs too, such as dicing onions and tomatoes for salsa or slicing cheese for an appetizer plate.
I have a set of hand forged knives I bought some years ago. I started with the chef's knife, which I love. But that knife is 10" long and unwieldy at times. I had a Kullens blade Santuko knife in the set and broke the edge on a very hard object. I couldn't afford to replace that knife, though it was my most used knife due to it's sharpness and length. Well, I don't need to replace the expensive knife because I found a better one. This knife is light, sharp, and controllable. There is no knife at 4X's the cost that can beat it. If I need a heavier knife then the 10" Lamson comes out.
While not in the same class as my best knives (I prefer Henckels Zwilling), this is a great knife for considerably less money.
We belong to a vacation club where we stay in villas, and in the summer we like to rent a house, villa or condo for a week or so. The cutlery provided in these places is generally cheap and dull to the point of being dangerous. I bought this knife and the Victorinox companion paring knife to bring on vacation.
The knife has a good feel, but not quite the heft of my better knives. It cuts beautifully and should hold its edge for some time given that it is not in daily use year-round.
I purchased this knife based on the fact that it continues to be the perennial favorite of America's Test Kitchen/Cooks Country staffers. It always comes out on top in their equipment reviews beating out the knives costing up to 5x more. Very comfortable handle. I'm very happy with this knife.
