Different than what Alton uses!

I purchased this based on watching Good Eats, however, this is NOT exactly like Alton's. The handle on this item does not curved down like Alton's; it extends straight out and therefore you cannot easily hold this and open the lid using the same hand so you can get a pinch of salt with the other hand. Alton's salt cellar (available at altonbrown.com) is an easy one hand operation that is exactly like Alton's Good Eats... you can also get the other color versions as well at this site. I don't know why this one is sold here instead of the correct Good Eat's salt cellar.

I feel ripped off!!!!!

The salt server is nothing like the one on Alton Brown's program. I hate them!!!! I made the big mistake of buying three because I thought. I would actually get the one like on the program......I NEVER MAKE THAT MISTAKE AGAIN!!!!

NOT the Salt Server Alton Brown uses

If you search the store by clicking on "Shop by Host" and click on Alton Brown's items, this salt server will come up. However, this is NOT the same one that Alton Brown uses on his show. This one has a very short, straight handle and it's virtually impossible to hold the server in one hand and flip the lid open/closed at the same time. You either have to flip the lip up and then pick the server up or use two hands. The one Alton Brown uses has a longer, curved handle so that you can hold it in your hand and flip the lip open/closed at the same time. If you're looking for a salt server, this is an ok item that's constructed well. But if you're looking for the one that works like the one Alton Brown uses on his show, you will be disappointed.

Salt Server Lid

Thought the size of this salt server is nice - not too big to sit on counter. BUT the lid would not close. There was a 1/4" gap opposite the hinge - gasket didn't seem to be the problem - looked as though the hinge wasn't right. M Ward

Handy Dandy Salt Cellar

I have been looking for this for years. The fact there is no hole for the spoon means no inlet for dust and dirt, too. Alton Brown has used it forever but I had never seen it until I found it here on the food network store. The only thing that I am bummed about is Alton's handle actually curves down like the handle on a mug making it easier to handle than the short stubby one on this version.

Salt Server

I order two of these and would probably send them back if it weren't for how much trouble it would take and the fact that I would probably have to pay for shipping. These are very cheaply made and both salt servers had tops that did not seat properly and had to be twisted and bent in order to even touch the top of the glass container. I do not see how these containers will keep the salt from absorbing moisture, as they do not make a seal from the top to the container. I am very disappointed.If I had ordered only one, I would have assumed it was one bad item, but both of them have exactly the same problem.

Salt Server with Spoon

Love this little device...my ONLY complaint is that the glass dish is not attached, so if you try to pick it up in any way other than the handle...it comes apart...and it can be messy when that happens! (Yes, I'm a dunce...I speak from experience.)

Exactly what I wanted

Keeps salt clean and available. Looks good.

The lid on the salt Server will not close completly. We live in Hawaii,humdity takes its toll here.

We always wanted a salt cellar like Alton Brown but could never find one in stores. This

I like that the salt is covered (unlike an open-styled salt pig or dish), but the seal isn't as air-tight as it was described so my kosher salt gets a little clumpy due to moisture. It is easier to get a pinch of salt with the server than with a shaker! Overall, I like it very much, I would just like the seal a little tighter.

This is the exact same salt server that Alton uses and is a very nice product. It's not flimsy at all and looks nice enough to leave out on the counter or table. The little spoon is a nice touch if it is being used by more than just the chef!

Nice Salt Cellar

The only two things I would say against this: I wish the lid's lever/handle was smaller so that it could be flipped with just the hand holding it. You have to have the lid open before you open it, or you have to use your other hand to hold it while you flip the lid open.

The only other thing I would say is although the spoon is a nice touch, it's useless. Clean fingers do a much more accurate job!

On the positive side, it's durable. My silly cat knocked it over onto the tile floor and other than the mess of cleaning up salt, the glass dish and server survived unscathed.

Great Product!

I really like the salt server with spoon. I purchased two, one for pepper and of course, one for salt. It is so handy to have them within my reach when cooking.
They are stylish and air-tight which keeps the salt and pepper very dry.
So glad I found them on Cooking.com!

Salt Server

It adds a touch of elegance to my cooktop spice area & really salt by the pinch is so much better than by the shaker. No worring about the humidity in the shaker. Love this .

Hard to handle

I love my salt server but it takes two hands for me to operate. The handle is short so I can't hold the server and operate the lid at the same time. I have to leave the server on the counter, flip the lid, and forget about looking like Alton Brown.

This was the second "sodium chloride containment unit" that I have purchased here. The first was purchased several years ago and has served us very well. It is very handy to have in the kitchen and is very easy to clean. The second salt server was purchased as a gift to a chef friend of ours. I am impressed that the newer version has a silicon gasket seal for the lid as the older one does not. It is an effective moisture barrier for those steamy days in the kitchen. The spoon may be nice for some, but the intent of the server is to use one's fingers to pinch the salt so it's not really needed. It may seem a little expensive, but it's worth it in the long run.

I watched Alton Brown use these, so I bought 3. I was tired of my kosher salt klumping in my previous shaker. Even with heavy steam from draining foods the salt stays dry and klump free. I love them.
