The RSVP International 8-oz. Endurance Salt Server features a contemporary appearance perfect for modern kitchens and dining areas. The durable glass construction makes it easy to gauge exactly how much salt is in the container and when refills are necessary. A sturdy stainless steel frame secures the glass and ensures that the product will last. Each salt server has a flip-top lid that lets you quickly and easily scoop out the contents or refill the server for future use, and an integrated silicone gasket prevents moisture from causing salt to stick or melt, keeping air and water out to maintain freshness. The entire unit is dishwasher safe, saving you time when it comes to cleanup, though hand washing helps ensure the longevity of the silicone gasket. Best Used For: Use the salt server for kitchen or tableside preparation of dishes that require gourmet salts. The versatile holder also works equally well with crushed pepper, spices or sugar, giving you a stylish way to store and present popular seasonings and ingredients. Features:
  • Contemporary look is perfect for modern kitchens and dining rooms
  • Sturdy stainless steel frame lasts for years
  • 8-oz. container is an excellent size for seasonings
  • Glass construction lets you view contents
  • Flip-top lid allows easy access
  • Silicone gasket stops moisture and air from entering

  • Cleaning & Care: Dishwasher Safe but Hand Washing Recommended

  • Different than what Alton uses!

I purchased this based on watching Good Eats, however, this is NOT exactly like Alton's. The handle on this item does not curved down like Alton's; it extends straight out and therefore you cannot easily hold this and open the lid using the same hand so you can get a pinch of salt with the other hand. Alton's salt cellar (available at altonbrown.com) is an easy one hand operation that is exactly like Alton's Good Eats... you can also get the other color versions as well at this site. I don't know why this one is sold here instead of the correct Good Eat's salt cellar.

  • NOT the Salt Server Alton Brown uses

If you search the store by clicking on "Shop by Host" and click on Alton Brown's items, this salt server will come up. However, this is NOT the same one that Alton Brown uses on his show. This one has a very short, straight handle and it's virtually impossible to hold the server in one hand and flip the lid open/closed at the same time. You either have to flip the lip up and then pick the server up or use two hands. The one Alton Brown uses has a longer, curved handle so that you can hold it in your hand and flip the lip open/closed at the same time. If you're looking for a salt server, this is an ok item that's constructed well. But if you're looking for the one that works like the one Alton Brown uses on his show, you will be disappointed.

  • Salt Server Lid

Thought the size of this salt server is nice - not too big to sit on counter. BUT the lid would not close. There was a 1/4" gap opposite the hinge - gasket didn't seem to be the problem - looked as though the hinge wasn't right. M Ward

  • I have been looking for a salt container and couldn't find one until now. I like the idea of a lid and a spoon because I can be a messy cook and you know what they say.... I just have to remember to put the lid up when I begin to prepare dinner or whatever. This is a really nice salt contaier and I would recomment it to people.

We presently have a similar salt keeper in our house and have enjoyed it for many years. Our son will soon be moving out into his first apartment and we knew that he needed a touch of home for his new home. This is our gift of choice.

  • This is just cool. Nuff said.

The reason you have always wanted one, is because you are a loyal Good Eats fan. And let's face it, everyone who sees it, instantly recognizes it and wants one too. The tiny spoon actually helps control your salt intake. My pinches tend to be a bit on the heavy side.

  • A few things I didn't realize about the product before I bought it: 1. The insert (can't tell if it's glass or hard plastic) is only held into the base by three metal dowels along the side. The nice thing about that is you can remove it to clean it. But it also doesn't feel as sturdy in my hand as I expected it to. 2. Single-handed operation of the lid is not really possible. While the hinge rests atop my index finger nicely, there's nothing under there for my index figer to curl around and grab onto, so I need my thumb on top of the hinge to stabilize it. That means my thumb isn't free to move around and operate the hinge. I wind up using my other hand to hold the base of the container while my thumb flips the lid. Single-handed operation that I had seen from Alton on his show was a selling point for me, so this has been a disappointment. Also, there is no spring in the lid, so the movement of the lid isn't as natural as I expected it to be. Overall, its a lot more attractive than most salt keepers and has some nice features, just not as many as I was expecting. Functionally, I don't think this is the same container Alton uses on his show, but it sure looks like it.

    I recommend this product.

  • Salt Server

I love this. When I was visiting my friend in New Zealand, I learned that everyone there uses these. I have put salt in a bowl and pinch it with my fingers, but was always worried about cross contamination and dust. This keeps the salt fresh and the spoon is so handy. Love it

  • Cat's Meow!!

I love to cook, I love to watch Food Network, Cooking Channel, etc. I love Alton Brown. Ever since I first saw this on Good Eats I wanted one, could never find one. The day my six year old son pointed this out to me I don't know who couldn't wait to get this, him or me. This has really filled a need in our kitchen. I couldn't be happier with it and best of all, my six year old son is still "playing" with me in the kitchen.

Finally acquired one after years of boxes and plastic for cooking. Doesn't have the thumb lever Alton's has but a good surrogate.

We had a version from Alton Brown and it was ready for the bin.
We were happy to have a replacement. The hinge is a little tight but we hope it will loosen up.

  • Food for Thought

I have been looking for a salt server - and this one is much better than I anticipated to find. It's very attractive too. However, I wish there was a rubber seal to keep a little bit of moist out, but overall, I am very happy with it!

I have watch Alton for some time now and wanted the salt server he had. I looked all over for it and then realized FoodNetwork.com sold them. I thought it was a little pricey until I received it. It is made from quality materials and I expect it will last a long time!

  • great alton brown salt cellar alternative

Dispensing salt from this is soo much easier than grinding your head off with a salt grinder. I am a HUGE fan of good eats and when I went to his site it was down and I couldn't order it from there. So this I.M.O. is a little better looking ,but I wish they had.more colors to choose from. Overall very satisfied.
