  • Different than what Alton uses!

I purchased this based on watching Good Eats, however, this is NOT exactly like Alton's. The handle on this item does not curved down like Alton's; it extends straight out and therefore you cannot easily hold this and open the lid using the same hand so you can get a pinch of salt with the other hand. Alton's salt cellar (available at altonbrown.com) is an easy one hand operation that is exactly like Alton's Good Eats... you can also get the other color versions as well at this site. I don't know why this one is sold here instead of the correct Good Eat's salt cellar.

  • NOT the Salt Server Alton Brown uses

If you search the store by clicking on "Shop by Host" and click on Alton Brown's items, this salt server will come up. However, this is NOT the same one that Alton Brown uses on his show. This one has a very short, straight handle and it's virtually impossible to hold the server in one hand and flip the lid open/closed at the same time. You either have to flip the lip up and then pick the server up or use two hands. The one Alton Brown uses has a longer, curved handle so that you can hold it in your hand and flip the lip open/closed at the same time. If you're looking for a salt server, this is an ok item that's constructed well. But if you're looking for the one that works like the one Alton Brown uses on his show, you will be disappointed.

  • Salt Server Lid

Thought the size of this salt server is nice - not too big to sit on counter. BUT the lid would not close. There was a 1/4" gap opposite the hinge - gasket didn't seem to be the problem - looked as though the hinge wasn't right. M Ward

  • Perfect tool!

This thing is perfect. I use Kosher salt quite frequently and when I saw Alton Brown using this on his show I knew I needed somehing like it. I looked around at kitchen and gadget stores for months and there really isn't anything that works like this does. A google search led me here, I ordered it (and was pleasantly surprised at the low price) and it now sits right next to my stove. It's perfect: quick, easy and efficient. One handed operation let's me pinch and sprinkle all in one motion and on the fly. Best $20 I've spent in a while.

    I recommend this product.

  • Good, but question

I like this salt holder, it is very nice looking. I have a question though. Where does the spoon go when not in use? I don't see any holder on it.

    I recommend this product.

  • done right this time

I bought one of these Good Eats Salt Cellars a few years ago and it wasn't very sturdy. This one is a different model and looks much more solid. Strong joints, silicone cushioning around the lip and at the lid's contact points.

    I recommend this product.

Nice–sturdy, looks great. Much easier to use my kosher salt for cooking now. Like the fact that the salt is covered when not in use.

  • NOT the Alton Brown Salt Cellar

This was billed as the same one used by Alton Brown on Good Eats. It has a tab instead of a handle, which makes it hard to hold and open with one hand. Very disappointing!

The only knock I have against this thing is the handle . The small tab is a little awkward . I feel as if I'm going to drop the thing If I pick it up and try to open the lid ! This thing would be perfect if it had a handle like a coffee cup . That way you would have a firm grip while opening the lid with your thumb . Keep the spoon and put a better handle on it !

    I recommend this product.

  • Salt Cellar

I snapped up this salt cellar thinking it was the exact same kind as on used in the "Good Eats" shows. This one is designed a little different, and for me, it is tricky to open one-handed with my thumb. ( Like Alton does. ) The handle is not curved to fit your fingers, and thus can be challenging. This one is well made, and a good value for the price. I just wish it was the same design as used on the show. Sigh...

    I recommend this product.

  • Ever product I have recieved from Food Network I have been more than pleased with. your shows or very informative and I have learned a lot from them. My husband is a heart disease patient and I watch very carefully what he eats now and so I watch a couple of your programs a lot "5 ingrendients" and of course "Rachel Ray" which help a lot and I haven't found any recipes that I've tried he doesn't like and that came out just the way they should. I'm a southern cook from Louisiana and we fry everything thats not tied down or nailed down. It goes in the frying pan. NOT GOOD FOR YOU. Hope you guys remain on the air for many years. Thanks again for your products to make life easier.

  • No Alton Brown fan should be without this!

Salt server is very nice, excellent quality and looks great. Bowl come out for easy washing. I am a little confused by the tiny tiny spoon though, to small to be of any use. Hey you are suppose to use your fingers anyway just like Alton. I highly recommend this item quality is second to none.

  • Finally, I can pretend to be Alton Brown!

I've been searching for something good and practical to keep my kosher salt in and have been fighting with tiny little canisters. This is perfect. It's wide enough that you can get a spoon or your fingers into it.
