The pot itself is fine, but I bought it specifically for pasta cooking. Unfortunately, if you fill the pot so that there's enough water in the insert, it boils over. The insert never has enough water for the pasta.
This pot sees use constantly in my kitchen. For soup, pasta, steaming vegetables....The only problem is when I have two things I want to use it for at once! Very sturdy, but use a pot holder to take the lid off; it'll be HOT! Just to note, you need quite a bit of water to cook pasta with this, as the insert does not come very close to the bottom of the pot. Overall, though, excellent pot!
A heavy pot for almost all cooking needs. I've made over twenty quarts of applesauce in it this fall and have had no scorching. The thick bottom heats evenly. I'm very happy with this product.

Cuisinart is one of the best kitchen products and I gave it to my daughter-in-law after Christmas, just because. The other strainer she was using for a few years had broken handles. I know this will NOT happen to the Cuisinart strainer pot.
I was looking to replace a vegetable steamer and this looked perfect, although I had reservations about the handles on the steamer. Sure enough those wire inserts are horrible and just get in the way. outside handles are the way to go. the lid on this pot allows water to spit out all over the stove while steaming. Just a poor fitting. the best thing about this pot is it looks good, but functionality is poor. I have a lot of Calphalon products and this is the first one that disappoints.
After going through nearly few dozen stockpot options, hundreds of customer reviews, I finalized on this one, based on price, value for money, brand, others feedback... I already have few Pots & Pans from Calphalon so this was a beautiful addition to my set. An added bonus was the glass lid as I only have Stainless Steel ones for all my other Calphalon pots, so now I can use this with those (same diameter), certainly helps to see through the glass when cooking, without letting the heat or steam escape. As far as this pot goes, very well built, sturdy and boils the water really fast. I even like the strainer insert (again very well built) & steamer that came with it. All stacks nicely without taking much space.
Nice, heavy duty multi use pot with a great seethru lid! This will have many uses especially the smaller insert basket. Perfect for steaming veggies or seafood. Perfect. pan for pasta, steamimg veggies and seafood, and just for making pasta sauce. Love the smaller steamer basket insert
I purchased this item for the sole purpose of steaming shrimp. I had a pot I adapted for that purpose but I really wanted a steam pot. This combo is perfect because the lid fits over the pot and the steam basket sits down in the pot. Just what I needed.
First I made soup / what a great stock pot. Then I cooked Pasta, no need for a colander, loved it. Next I steamed Brussell sprouts nice even steam, large enuff I did not have to stack them up. Good for two.
You only need this one Stockpot combination to perform multiple tasks in the Kitchen! From boiling pasta, fresh greens from the garden or market, fresh corn on the cob to steaming/poaching poultry and delicate seafood or just steaming hot dogs and/or buns!
I was impressed with the quality of the pot. This is the first time I've ever splurged and bought something that wasn't cheap for cooking. I only used it for spaghetti so far, and had some issues with the spaghetti falling through the holes.. but think it will be great for future cooking.
