The pot itself is fine, but I bought it specifically for pasta cooking. Unfortunately, if you fill the pot so that there's enough water in the insert, it boils over. The insert never has enough water for the pasta.
This pot sees use constantly in my kitchen. For soup, pasta, steaming vegetables....The only problem is when I have two things I want to use it for at once! Very sturdy, but use a pot holder to take the lid off; it'll be HOT! Just to note, you need quite a bit of water to cook pasta with this, as the insert does not come very close to the bottom of the pot. Overall, though, excellent pot!
A heavy pot for almost all cooking needs. I've made over twenty quarts of applesauce in it this fall and have had no scorching. The thick bottom heats evenly. I'm very happy with this product.

Wonderful product. We also use it regularly as a soup pot. Heavy bottom distributes heat well enough that it won't burn during a long simmer. Pasta strainer and veggie steamer are a perfect size for a reasonable sized family or group. Pot and inserts clean up well even though they aren't non-stick coated.
This is a must for any well equipped kitchen.!
I read the reviews and went with this pot. The top did not fit well, as someone commented, but I only noticed it when it was very full of boiling water. In fact, at the time I was using it as a canning pot, another use I have not yet seen mentioned. It fits half pint and pint jars, if you only need to do a few. I have since used it in the oven, and it performed beautifully there as well. I expect it to be spectacular for steaming and spaghetti! Best thing is it still fits in my stove drawer, and with some careful rearranging I did not have to find a new home for anything. Much nicer than my old 6Qt pot.
The Calphalon stainless steel multi-purpose stockpot is a very good quality item which I will use over and over again for many years. It is heavy duty, a good large size, and has a large steamer insert, which was an unexpected bonus (it's much bigger than the steamer insert on the pot it's replacing). I am very happy with both the quality and the price of this cookware.
Use it for a stockpot, pasta pot, or use the extra basket to perfectly steam vegetables... It is excellent. The lid leaks steam if you use the vegetable steamer with stockpot. The lid fits perfectly with the pasta strainer which is deeper.
Always liked the Calphalon brand and still do, but the lid for this particular stockpot doesn't fit quite correctly and everytime I boil pasta or vegetables I have to cock the lid slightly so that I don't end up with water splattering all over my stove top.
I purchased this pot based on reviews already on the site. This is the best pot I have owned. Multi purpose, it is great for stew, sauces as well as pastas and rice. Even stuck on food releases quickly with a little soaking.
I bought this as a gift for our son who was in the market for a nice stock pot with a steamer. He lives in NYC with limited kitchen storage space, and wanted a dual purpose item. I was pleased with the weight of the pot and the construction. He will not be receiving it till Christmas, but it looks as though it will do the job. If I did not already have a good stock pot I would consider one of these for myself.
We have just remodeled our kitchen and bought the SS Stockpot before it was finished. I was excieted about getting to use it. We bought a new stove top and it will only use certain cookwear. We did not know this at the time we bought the stockpot. When the kitchen was completed I was nervous...but...it worked. It has been fun using it. We've made pasta (it has the pasta strainer inside)and it works great, with the new stove top it heats up quickly and very evenly. We've made stock, soups, stews and vegetables (it has a steam basket). The pots heats up great, cooks food evenly and cleans up great. Along with all of that it had a great sale on it. We have bought a lot of items through foodnetwork store and have loved all the items. Thanks Linda Miller
