The pot itself is fine, but I bought it specifically for pasta cooking. Unfortunately, if you fill the pot so that there's enough water in the insert, it boils over. The insert never has enough water for the pasta.
This pot sees use constantly in my kitchen. For soup, pasta, steaming vegetables....The only problem is when I have two things I want to use it for at once! Very sturdy, but use a pot holder to take the lid off; it'll be HOT! Just to note, you need quite a bit of water to cook pasta with this, as the insert does not come very close to the bottom of the pot. Overall, though, excellent pot!
A heavy pot for almost all cooking needs. I've made over twenty quarts of applesauce in it this fall and have had no scorching. The thick bottom heats evenly. I'm very happy with this product.

Cuisinart is one of the best kitchen products and I gave it to my daughter-in-law after Christmas, just because. The other strainer she was using for a few years had broken handles. I know this will NOT happen to the Cuisinart strainer pot.
I was looking to replace a vegetable steamer and this looked perfect, although I had reservations about the handles on the steamer. Sure enough those wire inserts are horrible and just get in the way. outside handles are the way to go. the lid on this pot allows water to spit out all over the stove while steaming. Just a poor fitting. the best thing about this pot is it looks good, but functionality is poor. I have a lot of Calphalon products and this is the first one that disappoints.
