Active Time:  5 Minutes
Total Time:  12 Hours 5 Minutes
Yield:  16 servings
RECIPE INGREDIENTS
6 vidalia onions (approximately 2 1/2 pounds), about 3- 4 inches in diameter, stem and root ends sliced off, peeled and left whole
1 stick butter
Other necessary recipes:
Caramelized Onion Soup
DIRECTIONS
Place the onions and butter in a slow-cooker and cook on low 12 - 24 hours until the onions are deep golden brown and very soft. Different slow-cookers will take different amounts if time - it's almost impossible to overcook this.

Use the onions and liquid to flavor soup, stock, stews. They make a wonderful addition to risotto, a perfect pasta sauce and the worlds best pizza topping (drain off the liquid first).
