Spaghetti in Garlic-Tomato Sauce

Yield:  Makes 4 servings
RECIPE INGREDIENTS
1 pound dry spaghetti
3 tablespoons olive oil
6 garlic cloves, smashed
1 large tomato, chopped
1/4 cup chopped basil leaves
2 cups favorite tomato sauce
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
DIRECTIONS
TO MAKE THE PASTA: Bring 3 quarts of salted water to a boil, add the pasta and cook according to package directions. Drain and set aside.


TO MAKE THE SAUCE: In a large sauté pan over medium-high heat, heat the olive oil. Add the garlic and cook for 5 minutes, until cooked through and translucent, but not burned. Remove from the heat and let the garlic infuse with oil for 5 minutes. Add the tomato, basil, tomato sauce, salt and pepper to taste and heat through. Add the drained pasta to the sauce and toss to combine.
