RECIPE INGREDIENTS
1 2/3 cups chopped
dates
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup sugar
Pinch salt
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground
allspice
1 cup boiling water
1 1/2 cups
self-rising flour

DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 4-by-8-inch loaf pan.
Place all the ingredients except for the flour in a saucepan and stir over low heat until the butter is melted. Set aside to cool. Mix in the flour, and then pour the mixture into the prepared pan.
Bake for about 45 minutes, or until a skewer inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a wire rack for 10 minutes.
Turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely. Serve cut in thick slices.
