A Favorite for Years!
I got this recipe about 10 years ago and I use it everytime I need a good appetizer. If I am in a hurry, I just add some bottle barbeque sauce and it works just as well. It is as easy as can be (I wear plastic gloves to wrap the bacon on the chestnut) and everyone loves it!

Love these!
I was so happy to find this recipe! MY dad used to make something similar to this when I was small. He would dice up sliced canned pineapples and add a chunk to each chestnut, then wrap with the bacon. I hadn't thought of that treat in years. Thanks for the memory!

A Blast from the Past..
...1961 in fact. Served these at my first party as a newly wed. They were delicious; however, the water chestnuts were difficult to find back then in Albuquerque!

Best appetizer ever!
I have been making these for years and they never fail to be a hit! I use pickapeppa sauce for instead of chili sauce and it adds a nice spice with the brown sugar. I also use the thinnest, cheapest bacon which I found wraps nicely around the water chestnut.

Make sure you Only USE WOODEN TOOTHPICS!
Plastic melts! I make bacon wrapped appetisers all the time: Jumbo Shrimp instead of Water Chestnuts also works well. Kikuman makes a PLUM sauce (not the Teryaki)which goes amazingly well with Bacon, Water chestnuts, and shrimp. Easier than making your own sauce of Mayo, brown sugar and chili.

in the spirit of Bacon+anything is good...
Hi, I admit I have not tried this one,but it's very similar to another form: Bacon-wrapped dates. Do the same thing, but don't use the sauce, it doesn't need it. You might have to change the bake time, and it's good to use the broiler pan to let the fat drip off. It's wonderful. Thought you might like it. hope you do...

yummy
I've baked these without the sauce and they're tasty too. Try using a broiling pan so the fat can drip away. I'll probably use the sauce just as a dipper rather than a glaze in case people want to steer away from a higher calorie and sugar-laden appetizer. Wonder presenting a mustard dipping sauce would be nice too?

Outstanding!!!
A friend of my daughter-in-law made these with turkey bacon instead of the high fat, regular bacon and they were one of the best appetizers I ever tasted. She used Sriracha hot chili sauce, also known as "red rooster" sauce due to the rooster on the label. Definitely better for you with the turkey bacon, and the taste is the same.

My sister has always made a similar bacon-wrapped water chestnut where the sauce used is a simple bottle of sweet/sour sauce. Very easy in a pinch. This recipe sounds like there would be a bit of a glazed effect by using the brown sugar. I usually cook the bacon about half way in the microwave before wrapping the water chestnuts. They then bake up quicker and aren't swimming in as much grease. This works great with shrimp also.

Easy and Fast
Have fixed this lots of times at my house. Something to think about sometimes is wrap a chicken liver around the water chestnuts then wrap the bacon and cook the same way. Lots of friends that wouldnt eat chicken livers loved them...But then everything tastes good with bacon.
