Cake & Glaze Pass but Frosting Did Not Pass
I made the cake from scratch just like the recipe said. The frosting was terrible - little flavor, tasted like whipped egg whites! I think it didn't have enough syrup. Next time I will use my boiled frosting recipe and add the spices to it. I think the cake would be fine to stop at the glaze, too. It is a recipe that is time-consuming to make and would be easier to doctor a cake mix than to have all those yolks to use, too.

I think I'll try it.
This recipe sounds good, but I would use the tried and true boxed angel food cake mix and add the spices to it. I also have never greased an angel food cake pan. The cake has to be able to climb the sides of the pain to get the maximum oomph.

I don't understand these reviews
I gave this a 5 because I think it is unfair to review a recipe without even trying it. My rating is just to offset the inappropriate ones before it.

I'll agree that I've never heard of greasing an angel food cake pan. Also, I've never heard of turning it out of the pan right of the oven or inserting a skewer to see if it's done. The recipe sounds good, but i'll try it with my tried and true angel food baking methods.

Greasing Angel Food cake pan
Kay ~ I understand your confusion. According to both King Arthur Flour recipes: http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/traditional-angel-food-cake-recipe And Epicurious: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Lime-Angel-Food-Cake-with-Lime-Glaze-and-Pistachios-358238 They used ungreased cake pans. But this recipe calls for a greased pan so I would really follow their instructions to the letter. If it doesn't work out, post a comment.

No spray
Am usually a purist about angel food but this sounds interesting. Am wondering if one could add the spices to a box mix and save some time. One should never spray an angel food pan as you need it to stick to the pan so you can cool it upside down to maintain the "loft". After it has cooled just run a knife around the edges to remove from the pan.

I don't understand the comment or the cheers; I've never heard of NOT greasing and flouring an angel cake or bundt pan... Anyway, if a cake falls apart, you can always spoon the pieces into bowls and top it with whipped cream or ice cream. If you use good ingredients, and it's baked through, you will have something good to eat. Ultimately, isn't that the point of baking? In the interest of full disclosure, I rated this four stars on the basis of the description; I have not tried it yet.

Angel food recipe
It sounds like a very tasty cake but I've NEVER heard of greasing an angel food cake pan! ps The star rating is only indicative of how it sounds. I'm not about to put in the time, effort and expense of making the cake until I know if the pan is supposed to be greased!
