I tried this and they weren't so flat
I didn't soften the butter since I have a heavy duty stand mixer, just sliced it and combined it with the sugars. Then I left the dough in the refrigerator overnight. After putting the dough on the cookie sheets, I put them in the freezer for 10 minutes right before sticking them in the oven. They still spread out but they weren't flat.

Butter
To make these cookies less "flat" use half solid crisco and half butter or all crisco instead of butter. The different melting point of crisco and butter makes a difference in cookies.

tastes good, looks bad
i had high hopes for this recipe, but was very disappointed with the way they turned out: very flat and crumbly. maybe more flour would help them to stay together and be more cake-like.
