Good!
I made this using a french bread loaf that I sliced into inch thick slices. I only had 2% milk so I used that instead of whole milk, along with the cream. I did not make the syrup or use nuts, and I let it soak overnight. It was wonderful and received raves. I think that it can easily be modified to suit different tastes and nutritional needs. I think an egg substitute would work for the 3 eggs it asks for, and different flavor preserves would be be great also. Next time I am trying blueberr

Why, why, why???
It floors me that people give negative reviews without even trying the recipe OR because they are not familiar with an ingredient! IF a nutrition label doesn't SUIT YOU, DON'T make it! Try something else instead. If you don't know what egg bread is, google it, for crying out loud. Some of us actually like to see real feedback, modifications, etc... of a recipe.

Too much fat!
This could be very delicious and I would love to try it but very high in cholesterol and fat. However, I will probably try it once but will cut down on the fatty ingredients.

Bread and butter pudding, not French toast
Bread and butter pudding has been a favourite pudding for years in the UK, a der4ivative very similar to the published recipes. It's a wonderfully comforting warm pudding for those winter days. Any doubts, look up Wikipedia for bread `and butter pudding

Good breakfast!
After reading other negative reviews, I baked the casserole covered for 30 minutes and uncovered for 30 minutes to prevent it from drying out. I also just used regular maple syrup. It was very good! I used strawberry jam rather than raspberry because it was what I had at the house. My husband says it's a "keeper recipe"!

not a winner
I made this for my family for Christmas and no one was impressed. I thought it was rather dry and the clear almond flavored "syrup" was unappetizing.

Not so great
This was edible, but not much more than that. And the "syrup" was gloppy... maybe if the almonds had been ground?

Received many complements
Yesterday I entertained three special friends for one of their birthdays. They raved about the baked French toast and I plan to make it again. My husband had some and loved it and today there was still a little left and our 21 month old granddaughter couldn't get enough of it. Thank you so much for the great brunch recipe.
