Not the same
Yams and sweet potatoes are NOT the same thing. Yams are native to Africa and their botany is closely related to lilies and grasses. Sweet potatoes are indigenous to the Americas and they are members of the morning glory family. Sweet potatoes are yellow skinned, yams are darker. My favorite is the yam. They are naturally sweeter.

I made this recipe and everyone loved it. But We have a lot of diabetics in the family so I used Splenda as the sweetener. and it worked very well. We have lots of sweet potatoes as we grew our own in the garden and it was a very good year. I will make it again.

This dish has been on my Thanksgiving menu for about 8 yrs now. I can't get away with NOT making it. It's so delicious. Even people who do not like yams or 'candied' yams will love this. This isn't your grandma's candied yams! People love this so much that I have requests for it year round, not just Thanksgiving.
